Joel Sweeting March 20, 2012 Literature Lord of the Flies The Differences between the Deaths Of Piggy

and Simon Piggy and Simon were both brutally murdered on the island. Their deaths were very symbolic, important and are significantly different. Simons death was ceremonious and prolonged. It was like a funeral service, no detail was spared covered with a coat of pearls. After Simons Death, it seemed as though nature was weeping for him. It rained and the wind bellowed, but when the time came for his body to be received into nature, the rain and wind ceased in respect. Also, strange, attendant creatures from the sea came to watch his funeral. It can be said that his funeral was magical. The seawater dressed and cleaned his body; giving it an ethereal glow as it reflected the moonlight. This gave his corpse the appearance of sculptured marble and silver became sculptured marble the line of his cheek silvered. Then lifted it away gently like a pallbearer. It was like a proper funeral, fit for a person. His funeral was one of dignity. On the other hand, Piggys death was quick and military-like. There was a moment of silence in reverence for him (Ralph) and shock (the other boys) ...the silence was complete. Piggys death was not one he deserved. He was treated like an animal, a pig like a pig after its been killed bag of fat. Therefore, Piggy was killed like what most of the boys saw him to be a pig. He landed on a rock in the sea that can be likened to an altar. Therefore, like the sows head, Piggy was a sacrifice to the beast. His death was logical. Nothing remotely magical occurred. His death was extremely fast; in a few seconds, his corpse was gone. Piggy and Simon were both brutally murdered on the island. Their deaths were very symbolic, important and are significantly different. Neither of them deserved their deaths.
