GUIDE PROFICIENCY BADGES ACCIDENT PREVENTION 1, Know and where possible, demonstrate how to guard against accidents and when using: gas electrical appliances, kerosene stoves, naked lights, open fires. 2. Know what special precautions to take in the house with: 2.1 Small children 2.2 Old people 3. + Know at least three different ways of preventing accidents : 3.1 When boating and bathing; 3.2 When using public transport, cars and cycles, 3.3. When with animals, 3.4 Inhighrise buildings. 4. Know what special precautiotis to take outdoors with regard to barbed wire, poisonous plants, storms and other hazards, eg. hornets, jelly-fish etc. 5. Be prepared to put your knowledge to the test in a given situation AGILITY 1. Bring a certificate to show that she has completed one of the Re following clauses: K 1.1 Walked 6 m over a rope bridge: ED 1.2 Climbed 3 mup a rope: 13 Swam 25 m. 2, 21 Covered 3 km at scout’s pace (logging certificate may be accepted) 2.2 Demoristrated good walking and running. 2.3 Skipped continuously for one minute with rope turned backwards. 3, 3.1 Throwma lifeline within easy reach of a person 8 m away. 3.2 Thrown a hand ball overarm to a distance of 20 m to land between two side lines 4m apart ; 3.3. ANTEDRUG ABUSE Stage I a) >) a) b) ‘This badge is conducted at HQ level, Hence interested guides will have to wait for a circular from HQ before applying, There are two stages to this badge. Certificates will be presented to guides ‘who pass Stage |. A guide must complete both stages before she can receive the badge, which is awarded by SANA. ‘There is a participation fee which is non-refundable, Compulsory attendance at the Anti-Drug Abuse Course for Guides and Scouts. At the end of the Course, candidates will sit for a written test which includes Multiple Choice, True or False and Essay-type questions. The passing mark is 60%. Stage II (Only For Those Who Pass Stage I) Draw a poster on the theme of Drug Abuse Prevention. The Poster should have a SLOGAN, Any form of colouring material could be used but the paper should be of the same size as the normal art paper used in schools. The candidates Name, Coy, District and Division must be written on the top RIGHT HAND CORNER of the front of the paper. Marks would be awarded as follows: Message 10 marks Effort 10 marks, Presentation 10 marks Total 30 marks Compile a Log Book which should include the following:- i ii iii iv. Note: ‘The candidate's Name, Coy, District and Division on the front cover. A report on the Course attended. Cuttings from newspapers and magazines. A report on the candidate’s role as a ‘Transfer Agent’ To be a ‘Transfer Agent’ every candidate must speak to TEN friends and neighbours on the subject of anti-drug abuse, Having spoken to them, the candidate must answer all their questions to the best of her ability based on the knowledge gained form the Course, The following are to be included in the report:~ one sample of what was spoken to the 10 persons - the names, addresses and telephone numbers of ALL the 10 persons for verification. VY - the various questions asked of each person. EE - answers given to these questions raised This ‘Transfer Agent’ report should be incorporated into the Log Book (in the last few pages). Allocation of Marks Log Book:- i, Contents 10 marks Effort 10 marks Presentation 10 marks Tora 30 marks “Transfer Agent’ Report - 40 marks The overall total is 100 marks. Only those who have scored 60% and above would be awarded the SANA Anti-Drug Abuse Badge. AQUARIST 1. Own, or part-own, an aquarium of not less than three fishes. Be responsible for the care of the fishes, including feeding and cleaning, for at least six months or the Guide may take care of an aquarium in her School (if she does not own one herself). She should bring a letter from her teacher-in-charge to show that she has taken care of the aquarium for 6 months. 2. Know the general requirements for setting up an aquarium so as to maintain a balance. 3. Recognise four common varieties of cold water or twelve varieties of tropical fishes. 4, Identify the external visible features of fishes. 5. Choose four of the following aquarium appliances and show that she understands their uses: feeding rings; thermometers; filters; heaters; syphons, aerators; thermostats. Note: The tester is to inspect the aquarium more than once in order (o see that it is correctly maintained by the candidate. ARTIST. A figure drawing; 3.4 Astill life drawing; 3.5 Aplant drawing, 4. ~ Bring one of the following: 4.1 A design of a simple pattern suitable for well-paper, embroidery, or curtain material, indicating method of repetition. 4.2 A drawing in pen and ink depicting a scene from the history of the Guide Company. 43 A coloured design for a poster, or book cover, 44 A notice written in pen and ink for a Guide event. 45 A batik painting, 4.6 A piece of work in metal relief. 5. Be able to discuss the different media used in art.
