Re: __________ Victoria Rogers _______________ (Name of the student) Ms. Rogers worked with me as a general music teacher for grades 1-5 at Change Elementary School from January 16 to March 8, 2013. Victoria's musicianship on violin, her primary instrument, was exemplary, and her singing skills modeled good beginning vocal techniques for our students. She worked diligently on her piano skills, and was able to successfully play and sing during a music reading lesson she prepared for third grade students. In anticipation of her next student teaching assignment in middle school strings, Ms. Rogers often stayed after school to practice her performance skills on secondary instruments Victoria planned and implemented many outstanding lesson plans that introduced and developed student skills in singing, playing instruments, listening, form, and music reading. Additionally, she developed a composition unit plan for fifth graders, to help prepare them for an upcoming SLO Post-Assessment. Victoria designed lessons using the Internet and resources available in the classroom; she also networked with current colleagues and former teachers to gather songs and materials that offered varied, interesting, and age-appropriate content for our children. She was very self-motivated to reflect upon her teaching practices. Ms. Rogers often videotaped many of our lessons, reviewed them nightly, and was ready to discuss the strengths and weaknesses the next day. When necessary, she was very quick to implement changes based upon these discussions. Victoria's kind, caring attitude, and genuine interest in the students' lives quickly built a strong rapport with our learners. When confronted with some behavior issues, we brainstormed varying strategies and a discipline plan that proved successful when working with both primary and intermediate grade levels. Ms. Rogers consistently demonstrated her dedication as an educator. Victoria promptly attended all required meetings that were scheduled outside of the school day. She participated in a choral music reading session on a 1/2 day scheduled for Staff Development. Victoria attended two Shenendehowa string concerts, assisting the director with supervision of students and tuning instruments. Victoria Rogers has demonstrated outstanding skills, effort, and dedication to the field of music education. I feel strongly that she could apply these competencies to any music setting.
