Quotation: Adding Dialogue Narrative Writing

Rule 1Use quotation marks to enclose a characters exact words. Example A: If the statement ENDS with a quote, you will need to have a period, exclamation point, or question mark WITHIN the quote. Jennifer moaned with sadness, I wont be here on Friday for the field trip. Example B: If you BEGIN a sentence with a quote, do not place a period within the quotation. The quote must end with a comma, question mark, or exclamation mark. How could you forget your homework? Mr. Biddle asked impatiently. Rule 2There are other ways to use said in your narratives. Use the following words with descriptive adverbs to help with the narration in your story.
gulped replied answered screamed burbled yelled whispered laughed shouted gasped countered agreed responded sang chortled mumbled cried yelped teased snapped asked demanded requested interrupted warned chuckled confessed admitted babbled bragged

Example: I dont know who you are! he snapped aggressively. Rule 3Always start a new paragraph when the speaker changes Example: What are you doing tomorrow night? asked Bob. He seemed really nervous because his hands were shaking. Bob was staring at me intently. A bead of sweat began to roll off his forehead as he waited for my reply. I have to study for the math test, I replied awkwardly. I also have to wash my hair.
