DRUG NAME

MECHANISM OF ACTION An antiulcer agent that forms an ulcer adherent complex with proteinaceous exudates such as albumin. Also forms a viscious, adhesive barrier on the surface of intact mucosa of stomach or duodenum

INDICATION

SIDE EFFECT/ADVERSE REACTION Constipation, dry mouth, upset stomach, gas, and nausea may occur, symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing

CONTRAINDICATION

NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES -Monitor vital signs -Monitor Intake and output, renal function test, CBC and urinalysis -Monitor bowel pattern and stool consistency -Take medication on an empty stomach -Dry mouth may be relieved by sour hard candy, sips of tepid water
