CHALLENGE MECHANICS

COMPETITION PROCEDURE

PRELIMINARY ROUNDS (STATE LEVEL)

Team categories:
Category 1 - Forms 1, 2 & 3 Category II - Forms 4 & 5
State Challenge
Contestants will rst compete in the State Level Challenge which will be held in all
14 states.
a. First Challenge:
Teams in each category are to answer 20 multiple choice questions in English
based on Current Events and General Knowledge, through an interactive
device.
The top 10 teams in each category will proceed to the Second Challenge.
b. Second Challenge:
The challenge will be to build an innovative model in ONE hour. Using
Science and Mathematics principles, this model should offer a creative
solution for a problem presented 2 weeks before the challenge.
All teams need to give a 3-minute 'Oral Presentation' on their model to the
judges. Speaking in turn, team members will speak for ONE minute each.
The top 5 teams in each category will move on to the Third Challenge.
c. Third Challenge:
The top 5 teams will take part in a buzzer quiz where they will have to answer
open-ended questions in English based on Current Events and General
Knowledge using the speed quiz buzzer system, individually as well as
collectively.
National Challenge
All 14 state champion teams from each category will compete in the National
Challenge in the Klang Valley in October 2013.

1. This Competition is open to all secondary school

students from Form 1 to Form 5 from government
and private schools adhering to the Malaysian
syllabus. Schools can send in three teams per
category.
2. All students participating in the competition
must be in school uniform during each segment
of the competition.
3. Each team must consist of three (3) students,
all with valid Malaysian identity cards and
accompanied by a teacher-in-charge. No
substitution is permitted.
