Dear Parents, I have received numerous emails asking about the feasibility of having school next Monday and Tuesday due to all the closings this week. I have also had requests for further information about the impact the closings have regarding the scheduled April break. With closing school through Wednesday of this week we are currently scheduled to be in school until the last day of June. Any additional days need to come off of scheduled school breaks. In the fall the BOE decided that days beyond the last day in June would come from the April vacation starting with the Friday of the break. At this point in time I am asking the BOE to consider opening the schools next week, on Monday, February 18 & Tuesday, February 19. Prior to their making any kind of decision I need to establish how many staff members have plans on Monday and Tuesday that would make it impossible for them to report to work. This doesnt mean days will not also potentially be taken off of the April vacation, as it is unknown how many additional days we will need to close school for the remainder of the current school year. The State requires that students attend school a minimum of 180 school days. Some people have asked me if I felt there would be a waiver on the number of school days from the State. It is my understanding a district may request a waiver to the number (180) only after all scheduled recess days, including holidays, have been exhausted. I will keep you posted as to the BOEs decision. Thank you, Christine Superintendent
