Activity session subject : Plants and the life cycle Vocabulary: Parts of a plant stem, roots, leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds, trunk, etc Different types of plants trees, bushes, shrubs, flowers, grasses How a plant grows sprout, germinate, grow What a plant needs to grow water, sunlight, minerals in the soil Plants booklet identifying the different parts of a plant and what they do; identifying different types of plant and how they differ Germinating, planting, and growing mung beans over a 2-3 week period children must water the plants and make sure they have enough sunlight to grow. Writing Practice SIGHT WORDS Shapes: help familiarize students with the spelling of shapes by spending 10 mins at the beginning of every circle time having them identify the shapes words on the sight board ING verbs expand on last weeks verbs by teaching ING forms through games like charades and teacher penguin have students act out the verbs and match the word to the action. Then have them write full sentences to help them understand the verb forms in context. Write questions on the board for students to answer in full sentences to the best of their ability. Alternate between simple Yes or No full sentences. Go over the answers together at the end of the exercise. Monitor the students and make sure their spacing, spelling, handwriting, and line continuation is on point. Have students write full sentences using their new vocabulary. Help students to understand the meaning behind what they are writing. Prep Workbooks have students complete the ING verb page, having students fill in the blanks for the appropriate action. Have students write full sentences with the new vocabulary words. Begin by having them copy and fill in the blank from sentences on the board, having them steadily progress to writing their own sentences in their notebooks. Homework hand out twice weekly homework assignments. Collect and grade them the following class. Go over the answers at the end of class. Notes / parent follow up: When practicing English with your children, encourage them to respond to you in full sentences. The more you make an effort to correct them, the more likely they are to remember it.
