Cultural Literary Criticism 1. Family seems to be a big part of it EXAMPLE: He had come out of the war with five inestimable blessings his heads, his wife Marias head and the head of three out of their four children. (pg 28, line 4-7) He worked hard for his family. He used the old bicycle as an taxi and for earning money. 2. A belief in God also prevails. EXAMPLE: Nothing puzzles God. (pg 29, line 22) He believed in God that everything will be fine after the war.

3. People are not in good financial standing and the country is in a mess. EXAMPLE: He was normally heavy sleeper.Nothing puzzles God. (pg 31 line 19 pg 34) This can be shown the conversations between Jonathan and the thieves. The thieves are trying to take away the money that Jonathan is having currently. Everyone is facing financial crisis even though Jonathan has only twenty pounds eggrasher. The country is not safety, the neighbors knew the thieves are there, but nobody dares to report police or comes forward to help Joanthans family.

Theme
Thankful for what you have been given. The line is "Nothing puzzles God." It would be interesting to find out how much religion played into the lives of those who lived in Nigeria during this time. 1. Jonathan treasures life after the war. He works laboriously without any complaints, finally his hardworking brings the outcome, he earned twenty-pounds of eggs rasher after five days. (pg 30 line 35-39)
