Generic Name: methylergometrin e maleate Brand Name: Methergine

A semisynthetic ergot al kaloid used for the prevention and control of postpartum he morrhage.

Postpartum hemorrhage and uterine atony, subinvolution.

Hypertension. Toxemia. Pregnancy (Cat.C).

Sepsis. Obliterative vascular disorders. Hepatic or renal disease. 2nd stage of labor. Nursing mothers.

Hyper- or hypotension, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, dyspnea, headache, hematuria, thrombophlebiti s, water intoxication, hallucinations, leg cramps, dizziness, tinnitus, nasal congestion, diarrhea, diaphoresis, palpitations, foul taste.

>Be alert for adverse reactions and drug interactions .>This drug should be used extremely carefully because of its potent vasoconstrictor actio n. I.V. use may induce sudden hypertension and cerebrovascular accidents. As a last resort, give I.V. slowly over several minutes and monitor blood pressure closely.

A rapidly acting general anesthetic that inhibit sympathetic vasoconstrict or nerve activity and decreases vascular resistance

. Anesthesia Intensive Care Unit Sedation

Impaired cerebral circulation Hypotension Nausea and vomiting IV site burning or stinging

Labor and Delivery DIPRIVAN (propofol) Injectable Emulsion is not recommended for obstetrics, including cesarean section deliveries. DIPRIVAN (propofol) Injectable Emulsion crosses the placenta, and as with other general anesthetic agents, the administration of DIPRIVAN (propofol) Injectable Emulsion may be associated with neonatal depression.

Change in mood or emotions; dizziness; drowsiness; lack of coordination. Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); cough; feeling faint; itching; pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site; wheezing.

>Resuscitative equipment, suction, O2 must be available >Obtain vital sign before administration >Monitor respiratory rate, BP< heart rate, o2 saturation, ABGs, depth of sedation, lipid and triglycerides
