Wave of Great Awakening The First Awakening (or The Great Awakening) occurred in the 1740s Second Great Awakening through New England in the early 19 century. Not at all of New Englands clergymen, were sympathetic to the call for revival. Some had abandoned the Calvinist idea of predestination.
