Electrostatic Protection
This pictogram is used in relationship with Danger, Warning and Caution to hint to dangerous situations. This pictogram is used in relationship with Note for important information about the product or its operation.
Warning
Repairs to an item of automation equipment have to be carried out by HERAEUS Electro-Nite service personnel. For replacement purposes use only parts or components that are contained in the spare parts list or listed in the "Spare parts" section of this manual. Unauthorized opening of equipment and improper repairs can result in loss of life or severe personal injury as well as substantial property damage. Only use the fuse types specified in the technical specifications or the maintenance instructions of this manual. Do not throw batteries into an open fire and do not carry out any soldering work on batteries (danger of explosion). Maximum ambient temperature 100 C. Lithium batteries or batteries containing mercury should not be opened or recharged. Make sure that the same type is used when replacing batteries. Batteries and accumulators must be disposed of as classified waste.
2. Electrostatic Protection
VLSI chips (MOS technology) are used in practical all HERAEUS Electro-Nite electronic modules. These VLSI components are, by their nature, very sensitive to over voltages and thus to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Electronic devices can be destroyed by voltage and energy levels that are far below the level perceptible to human beings. Such voltages already occur when a component or a module is touched by a person who has not been electro static discharged. In most cases the components, which have been subjected to such over voltages, cannot be immediately detected as faulty; the fault occurs only after a long period in operation. This pictogram and warning label used on the cabinets, sub-racks and packing indicates that electrostatic sensitive components have been used and that the modules concerned are susceptible to touch. Before starting maintenance or installation make sure that you have sufficient protection against electrostatic discharge.

3. Introduction
The Multi-Lab III is a state of the art analytical instrument developed specifically for analysis of steel, iron and non-ferrous melts (temperature measurement, oxygen activity, and slag-oxygen activity). This versatile unit sets new standards of performance and ease of use. The task-oriented programming clearly outlines the operators choices and guides him step-by-step through each procedure. The way in which the data is processed and displayed can be matched to specific users practices. The Multi-Lab III has a number of superior features, utilizing software based solutions to measure, calculate and display measurement values in real time and optimal evaluation of the converted Electro-Motive Force (EMF) and temperature readings. The unit is equipped with a wide range of inputs and outputs for easy interfacing with a network, printer and remote displays as well as external devices such as a light/buzzer control system.

Failures during measuring cycle, e.g. error measurements, sensor or cable break etc. are registered and the nature of the error measurement is clearly displayed on the screen. Various parameters including type of thermocouple, measuring time, start value, interface parameters, formula parameters can be changed by the user via step-by-step screen menus. Housed in dustproof steel housing the rugged unit can be located on the furnace floor or in the pulpit.

Introduction
The Celox measuring probes provide both, temperature and oxygen measurement in liquid steel. Besides the thermocouple for the temperature registration (TMP), an electro-chemical cell generates a characteristic voltage (EMF) dependent on the free oxygen activity of the liquid metal.

4. General Configurations
This unit provides a wide range of connection facilities in order to meet the different operating circumstances, applications and user requirements. The main purpose of the Multi-Lab III is to measure the individual composition of molten metals. To meet this purpose, the unit is equipped with at least two measurement input channels. Besides the standard configuration, a dongle attached to the rear of the instrument encodes the hardware. During start-up the hardware configuration is shown.

5.1. General
Power ON switch
Multi-Lab III
Keypad
The Multi-Lab III is equipped with a 9-inch color TFT display with touch-screen operation and a keypad for monitoring and controlling the related functions and process parameters. Note: Never use sharp tools (ball-pen, screw driver or similar) to operate the touch screen. Otherwise it will be damaged. Operating of the instrument is subdivided in three access levels:
a. Basic level:
This level, called access level Basic, provides the essential measurement information to the user.

5.2. Switching on
The Multi-Lab III is ready for start-up after connecting it to the mains supply.
The power LED is lit red when the Multi-Lab III is connected to the mains supply (stand-by mode).

Press the Power ON switch to switch the instrument on. (The power LED will turn into green).

This screen shows the installed probe, hardware configuration of the instrument, and settings. After approximately half a minute the instrument switches to the last screen in the start up sequence.
This screen offers a hint for online help. Note: Normal operation is blocked until the Helpbutton is disabled.

The default measurement screen combines all the essential process information. It consists of: 1 : Information bar Displays date and the time. Indicators in the upper left corner show the insulation status of the probe. In case of failures the indicator lights up. In the right corner, slag measurement is indicated. 2 : Field with user-defined values (depends on type of Multi-Lab III) Results of measurements and/or calculations that are related to the process and selected by the user 3 : Function keys To access the different functions and modes of the Multi-Lab III 4 : Field with evaluated measurement data Shows the final results obtained during characteristic process development of the temperature and/or EMF. Each channel is displayed in a different color. 5 : Graphic display Displays the curves of the measuring channels (e.g. temperature against time and/or EMF against time). Page 12 of 105

The graphical display shows the time flow of the measured signals. Each channel is shown in a different color. The curves correspond to the fields of evaluated data with the same color. Colors are as followed: Channel 0: Channel 1: Black Red

The short vertical line on the curve indicates the moment the evaluation window (tolerance and plateau) was reached. Scale for temperature is shown on the left. The unit can be displayed in C or in F. Units can be changed in the main menu. Scale for EMF is shown on the right in units of voltage |mV|. The measured values of each channel are also displayed in real time in the fields on the top of the graphic display close to the respective scale. By tapping on the graphics field the display switches and shows the alternative numerical measurement screen. This allows a distant view to the measured values.

Here the measurement values are shown large. This display mode is called Big Status. In access level Engineer this display mode may be selected as default (see menu "Graph and Text"). Tapping on the screen toggles between graphics display mode and Big Status display.

The information bar at the top of the screen displays the insulation status of the connected probes ( 1 ), connected probe ( 2 ), actual time/date ( 3 ) and the presents of an optional Celox-SLAC ( 4 ) probe.

Insulation of the channels is continuously monitored. If the resistance exceeds certain limits, the marker ( 1 ) highlights. The channels are numbered from the left to the right with 0, 1, 2, and 3. An insulation failure restrains the system from measuring. If a SLAC probe is connected, the purple marker ( 4 ) lights up. The electrical insulation of the SLAC probe is monitored and indicated by the respective marker ( 1 ) Current time and date and the type of probe connected are shown in the center of the information bar ( 2 and 3 ).
5.5.3. User-defined values field In the user-defined values field, calculated values obtained by calculation can be displayed. Each value can be completed by a prefix (in the example aO, C, or Al) and suffix, e.g. the unit of the displayed value.
The user may define up to 22 values, but only the first 6 are shown on the default measurement screen.

Each data field has the same color as the corresponding measurement curve. When a measurement is taking place, these data fields will change color in a similar way as the status indicators. Green: Yellow: Red: Ready to start measurement (= probe connected to the lance) Measurement in progress End of measurement (= command to remove the probe from the melt) (The field turns red only for a very short time.)
The temperature measuring field(s) also show(s) the time and date of the last performed measurement, as well as two user defined settings for place and heat number which are related to the measurement. Note: The frame around the heat and/or place number will turn into red if the selected heat and/or place number are not the same as the displayed curves.

5.5.5. Function bar: Selection of operation mode The different operation modes (functions) of the Multi-Lab III are accessible by simply touching the desired menu item in the function bar of the touch screen. Help: Shows help for single items on the screen Note: If the button is activated, it turns to red. Clicking on a button or an input area shows a short explanation. All inputs and operations are blocked until the Help-button is deactivated.
Highlighted keys are enabled for touch screen operation and instrument keys, darkened fields are enabled for instrument keys on the front panel only. Select the desired function by the touch screen or by pressing the related key of the keypad. Depending on the operation mode, the bar shows content related functions. Only highlighted keys are selectable. The heat number can be edited by the user. The place of measurement (with password) can also be entered with the touch keypad.

2. Measuring probe inserted in bath If temperature of the probe rises above the start temperature, the temperature registration starts. The field of concerning measuring channel and the signal lights turn yellow.
3. Plateau determined If the measured values meet the settings of the evaluation level, the measuring stops. The field of concerning measuring channel turns red for a short time and the value and the evaluation level is displayed. (If applicable: the data is transmitted to connected addresses)

PLACE NAME This field identifies the location of the measurement. The name can be changed in a higher access level. The field should only be changed by the trained process engineer.
2:
ACTUAL LOADED SET-UP The actually loaded configuration is shown. Normally a factory-set configuration is loaded. In access level Engineer this configuration can be changed. Several parameter sets may be customized and stored as a custom configuration (see chapter 7).
3:
Help Pressing the Help key activates the online help. The color of the Help button switches to red. Touching an area on the screen shows a short hint instead of normal operation. The online help stays active until the Help-key is deselected.
4:
Menu buttons Pressing a menu button opens a sub-menu. Besides the menus name the button gives a hint of the items of the sub-menu.

1 : Channel information For each channel the following information is displayed: - The channel number (#0 to #3) - Actual measured value and respective unit - Measurement range - Checkbox IPTS-48: indicates, if the measurement is carried out according to the standard - Checkbox CJC: indicates, the cold junction compensation is active - The actual sample rate and the burn out parameter - The trigger mode - The monitored resistance of the lance - The measurement status; changes during measurement from Sensor Detection to Ready to Measuring. In case of a failure it shows an error message.

The information bar shows the name of the sub-menu and the status of the diagnostics. In access mode Basic only automatic diagnostic mode is possible. In access mode Engineer the mode can be switched to Manual Control by pushing the respective button. In this case, the color of the information bar changes from grey to green. All parameters can be adjusted for testing. Note: Since manual diagnostics is active, returning to main menu is impossible. 3 : Log-Field The Log-field shows information of errors occurred. Field 3964R indicates errors during communication with external devices. Field cold junction temperature shows the actual temperature of the cold junction and the minimum and maximum temperature measured. The next field T C O list the number of false measurements. The capital letters represent temperature (T), carbon (C), oxygen (O), slag (S), level sensor (L) and Econ-O-Carb measurement (TOC only). Pushing the button kOhm Hist shows the monitored resistance for the last measurements. To clear the history, press button Reset Hist. The button Trouble List shows a list of errors and hint to deal with these errors. This list can be updated by the engineer by an external computer via Ethernet connection. To change the trouble list execute the following steps: Connect the PC to the Multi-Lab III. Open file drive:\ML\REG\TL.TXT. Edit file and save it. Switch the device off according to chapter Switching off on page 9. Modifications of the trouble list become valid not until the device is switched on again.

1 : Listed data This data is sorted by date and time; the most recent data is displayed on top of the list. Use the function keys to scroll the list up and down. The table ranking number of the selected measurement is shown always on top of the screen and is highlighted in blue. 2 : Shift columns Use these keys to shift the columns right and left. 3 : Graphical area Touch the graphics area to show the selected measurement data on full screen. Touch anywhere on the full screen graph to return to the list. 4 : Range selection The displayed table of the database can be shortened by selecting a smaller range of data. Simply enter start and stop values of the requested table ranking numbers by using the Range selection fields on the screen.

6.3. Sub-Menu About 6.4. Checking the configuration of the Multi-Lab III
The Multi-Lab III is a versatile unit. In order to match the different requirements of its application, the components of the instrument can be customized in a wide range. The Configuration screen gives an overview of the installed hardware and its status at the time of the start up sequence. The Configuration screen is shown during this start up sequence, but can also be recalled by pressing the About button in the main menu.
Figure 19: Configuration screen The configuration of the Multi-Lab III is illustrated by means of colors: Grey indicates that the concerned board is installed Green indicates that the option is ready for use Blue indicates the presence of the basic board, but the add-on board is not installed. This is important for possible extensions, since only the Add-On cards must be ordered Additionally the Configuration screen shows the installed Multi-Lab software version at the top of this window.
Analog Input: This board provides 2 analog measuring inputs, which can be used for EMF and TMP measurement. CjC indicates the presents of a cold junction compensation for TMP measurements.

For service purposes and for coding hardware configurations other than the standard Celox configuration, the connection of a Dongle is required. Com1 is provided by the serial board and can be used for serial communication. (RS232, RS422, RS485 or TTY) Optionally, Com1 can be a Profibus DP or Modbus RTU industrial communication board in stead. BCD: BCD cards 0 and 1 are optional. Both cards can multiplex 4 displays. Each display can consist of 5 digits and 4 decimal points. LAN: This RJ45 connector is located on the CPU module and can be used for the connection to a local area network (Ethernet). Analog Output: This optional board provides up to 4 analog outputs (0/4 to 20mA). Digital Output: 16-channel relay low power output card (for PLC interfacing). (1 board provides 2x8 relay channels) (occupies 2 positions in the check configuration window) AC Output: 8-channel relay output card (for traffic lights). 1 board provides 2x 4 relay channels. (occupies 2 positions in the check configuration window) Digital Input: Add on for the digital output board 1 board provides 2x8 inputs (5-24V DC). (occupies 2 positions in the check configuration window) A digital output board can be equipped with a digital input.

The advanced instructions are intended for the trained process engineer. They explain parameters and settings that have direct influence on the measurement, the processed data and the communication with the connected periphery.
Now fill in the password (2448) and press Ent to accept the password. The screen returns to the Configuration screen.

Advanced Instructions The higher access level is indicated by the blue highlighted button Parameters. After a short time the device returns to main menu automatically. If you click the area above the configurations area, the menu returns immediately.

Entering or changing the different parameters and settings which are accessible by the main menu can be done by means of the touch keypad. This keypad will be displayed every time if an alphanumeric input is required. Depending on the permitted data input, four keypad variations are available:
Alphanumerical mode
The default keypad is the numerical mode keypad. To switch to alphanumerical mode, touch the Num button on the touch keypad. (This is only possible if alphanumeric values are permitted)
Numerical mode

The new entered data is valid as soon as the Ent-button is pressed; and the instrument returns to the previous screen. Whenever any parameter has been changed, the new configuration can be saved. If you leave the parameter screen by pressing the function key BACK from the function bar (or the respective key from the instruments keypad) the new configuration file can be saved. The user has to confirm the question..
If you reject the question with No all changes are reset to the former configuration. If you confirm the question with Yes the new configuration is saved. In the main menu the displayed ACTUAL LOADED SET-UP changes to Not Custom saved configuration. The next time the device is switched on it will boot using this configuration. You may store several custom-defined configurations in the device. To do so, just press the button Save as Custom.
Multi-Lab III provides a file name to store the new configuration. Accept the file name with Yes. Reject it with No. In this case, the configuration is not stored as a custom-defined and reloadable file but the configuration does not get lost.
The custom-defined configurations can be loaded at any time. Just select the desired configuration from the CUSTOM list and press Load Selected.

1 : Evaluation parameters The evaluation is a signal condition stage defined by the user. It determines the time the temperature has to be stable within selected limits (tolerance level) in order to conclude that the measurement value is reliable. To be able to deal with less appropriate signal conditions, evaluation can be done at four tolerance levels (see table on page 51), each level with lower accuracy than the former. Two parameters define the evaluation level: deviation of temperature (in C or F) and plateau length (in seconds). The parameters are set in the fields Tol 1 to Tol 4 and Len 1 to Len 4, respectively.

Method: As soon as the temperature exceeds the preset start value, the evaluation begins and the instrument searches for a plateau that lies within temperature tolerance 1 and plateau length 1. If such a plateau is found, the trace evaluation is stopped. In case the plateau is not found when the measuring time has ended, the trace is re-evaluated to find a plateau within tolerance 2 and plateau length 2. When the second plateau is not found, the trace will be re-evaluated once more to find a plateau within tolerance 3 and plateau length 3. When plateau 3 is not found a last trial is made to find a plateau within tolerance 4 and plateau length 4. The Multi-Lab III calculates the average value of all temperature values measured during this evaluation period and displays this average value as the result of measurement. If no plateau is found, an error is generated and no result is displayed. 2 : Thermo couple selection / Measurement range Depending on the set mode 4 this field shows a context-related list. Select the thermo couple type according to the thermo couple of the probe that is connected to the related channel or the measurement range for EMF respectively.
3 : Sample rate and algorithm Select the sample rate (measurements per second) and the algorithm from the respective list. Standard algorithm is se win, start end windowing 4 : Mode This field indicates the configured mode of measurement for the channel.

This screen allows the separate settings for temperature and EMF for all measuring channels.
1 : Start conditions The Start Val value determines the temperature or the EMF (mV value) at which the actual measurement starts. As soon as the measured value reaches the Start Val setting, the measurement sequence is initiated. 2 : Timing These fields determine the measurement time. Normally, the measurement stops as soon as an evaluation level is detected but not before the period set in Wait for EMF is elapsed. When no evaluation level has been detected within the maximum measuring period, no result will be displayed on the screen and an error message is created. Note: The measurement time, set in Meas Time, must be larger than the sum of the plateau length set in sub-menu Evaluation. If Meas Time is set to a lower value, the plateau length is corrected automatically.

1 : Bath level detection (Option) Note: For the bath level detection the instrument needs to be provided with optional hardware. The bath level detection can be used for calculating the bath volume and for automatic depth positioning of the lance with the measuring probe. Bath level can be detected either by means of the EMF signal or by means of the TMP (temperature) signal. The EMF signal is applicable for an accurate calculation of the bath volume but cannot be used for lance positioning. The TMP signal is suitable for automatic lance position. The bath level is determined by detecting the rapid rise of temperature or voltage when the probe is entering (TMP system) or leaving (EMF system) the bath. 2 : Celox SLAC Celox SLAC controls ferrous ladle slag in terms of its FeO or FeO-MnO content. To calculate the bath volume it is important to know exactly the height of the bath level. This height is derived from the EMF signal of the probe when it is leaving the bath. When the probe comes out of the liquid steel, it will have to pass the slag layer which is floating on top of the surface. Because this slag has a significant higher oxygen activity, the probe will generate a sudden rise of the EMF signal. This transition will be recognized as the bath level. The distance of the lance from the bath level to its home position provides the necessary information to determine the real bath level. Principle:

Celox SLAC controls ferrous ladle slag in terms of its FeO or FeO-MnO content. The cell is built like the Celox Sensor, but exposes an open zirconium thimble to pick-up slag during immersion. Celox SLAC works together with standard Celox hardware. The sensor does not comprise a probe. Note: The Celox SLAC probe can be connected to channel 1 (and 3)

How to use the SLAC sensor Celox SLAC used like a common Celox sensor, however has to be immersed through liquid slag into steel to get the reading. First select an eye with liquid slag on the ladle slag surface Make sure there is no turbulence around the Celox SLAC sensor head, because this would wash away the slag film surrounding the sensors zirconium thimble and result in a faulty reading. Immerse in a similar way as a Celox sensor through liquid slag at a depth of about 10 cm into steel.

In a first step, by moving down the lance, the slag level is found by use of a small steel strip ( 1 ). This steel strip provides the contact and will give information on the slag level. As the probe continues its way, it will penetrate the slag. Inside the Delta-Dist L, a small coil is used. A small current runs over this coil ( 2 ). The characteristics of this current will however dramatically change once the presence of steel is being detected ( 3 ). This current change is immediately detected by the Multi-Lab III and translated into slag thickness ( 4 ). After connecting the Delta-Dist L Sensor the indicator on the information bar of the default screen will be highlighted in purple. The signal for recognizing the sensor will flash 3 times.
7.2.5.1. Using Delta-Dist L for the first Time If option Delta-Dist L is enabled for the first time Lev is shown in sec. This is the time the sensor moves through the slag. To get the thickness of the slag in units of cm the formula must be edited and the actual speed of the used lance must be inserted. For this, follow the procedure described below: Change to Engineer level (see chapter Main Menu higher Level) and select menu Calculations. The Calculation Parameters screen opens.
Then click Edit of parameter C9 (Lev sec) The screen Formula editor opens. The current used formula is displayed.

The Multi-Lab III is carefully calibrated by the manufacturer, although additional compensation can be necessary in case cable loss appears.
This screen provides a calibration menu for all the measuring channels for temperature and/or EMF. Calibration is done by entering positive or negative offset values in the related fields.
1 : Calibration of measuring channels The measuring channels 0 and 1 are calibrated by entering an offset value. Depending on the reference signal the offset is given in temperate units or in mV. Note: Before changing the input offset value, make sure that the temperature error is not caused by damaged hardware or compensating cables. For an accurate calibration it is necessary to use a reliable calibration unit with cold junction compensation. This calibration unit has to generate a reference signal in the same order of size as the signal of the probe that is normally connected to the input channel of the MultiLab III. (In the case of steel, this should normally be a value in the range of 1450-1750 C.) For calibration purpose we recommend using the Heraeus Electro-Nite Checkmate.

Advanced Instructions Calibration procedure: Connect the calibration unit to the measuring lance. Adjust the calibration unit to the required reference value. The Multi-Lab III will perform a measurement.
Compare the signal value of the calibration unit with the value that is displayed on the MultiLab III. If necessary: go to the Calibration Parameters screen and correct the value that is displayed on the Multi-Lab III by entering the offset value in the related field (+ or -). Save the new offset values when leaving the screen. Caution: The input offset temperature should only be changed if the deviation is linear throughout the whole application temperature range. This can be determined by checking the temperature at the maximum and minimum operating temperature. If the offset is not linear, contact your local Heraeus Electro-Nite Service Office for further assistance. 2 : Calibration of Ch4 If option Delta-Dist L is enabled, calibration of the position is made in Ch4. In this case the 3rd axis should also be displayed. 3 : Calibration of analog output (option) The Multi-Lab III provides an analog output signal. Adjust the scale to the output range of 4 20 mA analog signals. Enabling of the checkbox RT puts out the complete measuring curve as shown in Figure 27 or Figure 29. If the checkbox is disabled, the output values mirror the values as displayed on the instruments graphics window. Up to four values can be put out to as mA signal. To assign a value to the respective mAChannel see menu HW-Options.

The calculation parameters screen consists of 22 formula fields. Each field displays a numbered Name Calculation (NC) box C0 to C21 (variable identifier for the result), a numbered Unit Calculation (UC) box and an Edit button. Beside the formula composing and editing feature, the Formula Editor screen provides a Multiple Range Selection field:
The calculated value is always compared to the values First Range and Second Range that are set with the keypad.
The result of the formula now depends on the value of the range selection parameter. The value determines the compliance with one of the 3 conditions.

The Multi-Lab III is provided with various interface connections. These facilities can be used to transfer the measurement data or status information of the Multi-Lab III to or from peripheral equipment.
The Multi-Lab III can receive data from other units at all times. But sending data to a connected device takes only place after a measurement.

When entering plain text, it will not be converted in the data telegram but it will be just forwarded to the address. Note: use an apostrophe ( ) for entering text space. References to formulas or other varying data as date and time, has to be entered between ~ and ~. When the Send STATUS option in the data communication window is activated, the instrument will send the status of the measuring channels to the connected address. The status consists of 4 bytes (first byte sent = channel 0, then channel 1, channel 2 and channel 3). Every time the status of a channel changes, all 4 bytes are sent. If the communication port where the Send STATUS option is activated also needs to transmit a data telegram, the status information is sent in front of this data telegram.

This digital communication system provides a wide range of applications, particularly in the fields of factory and process automation. Profibus-DP is suitable for fast, time-critical applications and complex communication tasks.
Profibus-DP is only selectable in the Data communication window if the optionally Profibus board is installed.
This optionally board is a Serial (RS232) to Profibus-DP converter which allows the Multi-Lab III to transfer the measurement data over the Profibus communication system. This converter uses one of the systems free serial ports (COM2 or COM3) of the Multi-Lab III for the transmission which is based on RS485 technology. Configuration is done via the Master PC or temporary PC connected to the PLC. To allow the master to address a slave on the Profibus system, it needs to know its functionality. There are several programs that provide this configuration facility. (Siemens, ABB, Gould, etc.) Refer to the manual of these systems for further information. Basically they all make use off a so-called GSD-file (GSD = Gerte-Stamm-Daten). This GSD-file describes the basic functions off the slave and how to parameterize. This GSD-file is delivered on CD or floppy disc along with the optionally Profibus Board.

This configuration defines how many bytes/words need to be received/sent from the Multi-LAB III. Next window shows an example of setting up 128 bytes (4x16 words) to be sent and received each cycle. Other settings can be made depending on the requirements.

In Modbus systems, data is transferred via data frames. There are two types of data frames possible: RTU and ASCII. For the Multi-Lab III the RTU frames are applied. In order to send a RTU frame, the master or slaves checks for an idle condition on the Modbus (Idle time). The supporting protocol and structure that is used in this network is TCP/IP (Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). Integrating the Multi-Lab III in a Local Area Network offers the possibility for remote reading and processing of the measurement data as well as changing some parameters of the Multi-Lab III The Multi-Lab III can have various functions in a network. It provides data to and/or accepts data from selected stations. To make this selection, the data communication of the selected station and the Multi-Lab III has to be configured.

Function selector LAN Name: In the field LAN name the user can enter the preferred name for the station (Multi-Lab III), as it will appear when exploring the local network in MS Windows. In the field Workgroup the user can enter the name of the workgroup to which the instrument Multi-Lab III will belong.

Automatic configuration: When the Automatic DHCP configuration is enabled, the instrument will obtain an available IP address from the network server. (DHCP = Dynamic Host Control Protocol) GW Address: (Gateway address) This address is the address of the LAN server that manages the network. The GW address consists of four bytes. Every byte has a decimal value between 0 and 255.
For every function that is required, address settings need to be done in the related windows. When the addresses are entered, it is necessary to save these values when leaving the window. For this purpose an Acknowledge window will pop up.

In this selection the user defines the addresses and names of the measurement station (Multi-Lab III) itself.
Parameters: IP Addr.: Every member of the LAN has a unique Internet Protocol (IP) address for identification. This address is essential and has to be known by the other member(s) to which data communication has to be accomplished. The IP address consists of four bytes. Every byte has a decimal value between 0 and 255. GW Addr.: (Gateway address) This address is the address of the LAN server that manages the network. The GW address consists of four bytes. Every byte has a decimal value between 0 and 255. The IP address consists of 4 bytes. In this IP address, one part is the Network ID, the other part is the Host ID. This differentiation is made by the IP mask: When a bit in the mask is set to 1 When a bit in the mask is set to 0 Network ID Host ID

Advanced Instructions 7.3.16. BCD 7.3.17. BCD card structure The Multi-Lab III can be equipped with up to two optional BCD cards.
A BCD card is intended for use where BCD (binary coded decimal) output is needed, either driving 7-segment displays or giving BCD output to a PLC. Each BCD card represents 5 BCD digits with 4 decimal point and 4 individual Data Set contacts.

8. Troubleshooting
Failures during the measuring cycle, e.g. error measurements, sensor or cable break etc. are registered and the nature of the error measurement is clearly displayed on the screen. In case the touch screen is broken, the different fields on the screen can still be activated with the NEXT and ENTER keys of the keypad. Each time the NEXT key is toggled the software logic jumps to another field (the active field is underlined). By pressing ENTER in a particular field, the corresponding menu is activated. When accidentally the wrong password is entered pressing anywhere on the screen outside the edit-box. leave the password log-on simply by
9. Maintenance Notes
CAUTION: Before opening the device or changing modules, make sure that the Multi-Lab III is disconnected from the mains supply. Never pull a card out of its slot when the instrument is switched on. As a result of the advanced electronic design, Multi-Lab III requires negligible maintenance. Since the measuring system is subject to thermal and mechanical stress, it is recommended that the measurement set-up is checked once a week to ensure accurate measuring results. For a combined calibration and function test of the measuring system, we recommend the use of our lance and calibration check system of the Checkmate Celox . Apart from calibration control, the same system allows fast and reliable insulation checking of the measuring system. CAUTION: Make sure that the sensor cable is disconnected from the instrument before isolation checks are carried out.
Procedure:
Connect the Multi-Lab III to an analog telephone line by means of the RJ11 connector on the rear side of the instrument. Contact the (local) Heraeus Electro-Nite service department. Activate the Tele service mode on the Multi-Lab III Pass on the telephone number of the connected line to the Heraeus Electro-Nite service engineer. Wait for the Heraeus Electro-Nite service to log on to the instrument and follow his instructions.

To activate the Tele service mode, just press the related button of the keypad during the start-up sequence. (The concerning screen is shown approx. 30 after switching on the instrument.)
