Developmental Workbook Observational Painting Study

Wednesday November 2nd: Today during art class, we did not work on our observational study pieces. Instead Ms. Giandalia gave us the assignment of creating a painting of a flower of our choice. We were given books and magazines to find pictures to work out of. For my piece I chose to paint a picture of a flower. I made a lot of progress in my piece, I believed that the color scheme of the flower itself would go well with a very dark colored background. Although I did not finish today in class I plan on taking the painting home over the weekend to finish it. Ms. Giandalia told the class that if we decided to enter the painting into the contest, then we could gain extra credit, which I plan on doing. I enjoyed this assignment although it was short. I believe that this allowed us to take a break from our current project, as well as allowing us to have a chance to work with the different styles of painting that Ms. Giandalia explained to us in the past classes.

Wednesday October 26th: During todays art class I would say that I made good progress with my observational study piece. I finished laying down the very light tinted base color onto my piece. Once i completed that, I started and completed the process of adding in the shading, using the starting with my lightest light tones and then going onto the darkest dark tones, which Ms. Giandalia helped me with. I am glad that i completed a good amount of work in todays class, because a few people are already in the last stages of their pieces. Today I did learn more about the proper technique to go about shading with different tones of one color.
