We had a great Halloween in the Kindergarten class. Everyone had wonderful costumes and it was nice to see so many parents come out to the costume parade. Remembrance Day is coming up soon and then we'll be looking forward to preparing for the Christmas Concert. Students are working on learning more letters and sounds with the Discover Reading program. In Math we continue to work on number sense and shape recognition. In Science we are starting a unit on the Five Senses and looking at how we are all unique in Social Studies.

Hello families, These past two months have really been speeding by; can't believe that we are already in November. This month we have been working on our new unit in math; counting to 100 in our number lines unit, after finishing up our unit tests for patterns. Currently my students are learning the "stop at the vowel sound" reading strategy in Language Arts and I have seen some of my kids read some simple words with this strategy too. This month was very eventful for my class; we have had a pizza party for good behaviour this month and the Halloween party was a smash. Looking ahead, I think that this year is turning out to be a good one for my class.

Grade 3/4 teachers Rosalind Best & Cecile Laboucan

Tansi Tallcree Families! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a Halloween full of treats and not tricks. This month in the Tallcree grades 3 & 4 class we have achieved 66% attendance. Congratulations to Kennedy Auger who has achieved 100% attendance this month! Thank-you to all the families working hard to get their children to school. As a class we are enjoying the Discovery Reading and Discovery Math Programs. We have completed our Number lines unit in Math and are beginning a unit on skip counting. We have finished our first Dee the Hip Red Hen booklet and have started working on the second booklet grade 3/4 students are developing their ability to blend letter sounds together to read single syllable words. Geology has been our topic of study in science we have explore the three types of rocks and will soon be moving on to building and design. Social Studies this month we have continued our study of Alberta but focused Albertas fossils finds. For health during October our class has learned about fire safety and as a school we practiced a fire drill. Art this month we have constructed 3 dimensional pumpkins. We will be focusing and the importance and meaning of Remembrance Day for social studies during early November. Report cards will be going home this month and I am looking forwards to seeing all of you at parents night to view the fantastic work your students have been doing this term. Each student in grades 3&4 has constructed a portfolio to show off their achievements!

We have been making excellent progress with our discovery reading program and our math as well. We are now learning about 2-D shapes and transformations, next week well be learning about 3-D shapes. Over the next few days we will be learning about Remembrance Day in Social Studies and following it with a citizenship unit. We are finishing up our weather unit in Science and we are all looking forward to our sky science and flight units. Our class consistently has the best attendance in the school way to go 5/6! The grade 5s have much better attendance than the grade 6s for October so the challenge is on for November. Our students made self-portraits in Art and enjoyed learning about proportions and Piccasso.

Resource Room Teacher Trudy Chambers

Tansi! October went by fast! Before the break I implemented a pullout program and now we are seeing results from the students who come to school regularly. Good on you! We are working hard to help everyone do their best. The students need to attend every day to get the best education that we all know that they deserve. Kudos to all parents/guardians who are making sure that our students are coming to school. The Storytime Tuesdays have been slow to get started, so, lets try and improve on that. Everyone is invited to attend and try reading as well as choosing books to share. Tuesdays from 7 til 8:30 p.m. we are in the school library. We are looking into expanding our library resources and organizing them, thanx to everyone who has helped clean up our storage rooms, great job! Lets get our students reading at home, just taking a book home and reading out loud for 20 to 30 minutes a day will make a big difference in your childs progress! Lately students are coming to school too tired to do their work, children need a minimum of 10 hours of sleep every night to be successful. You can do it! Soon our students will be showing us their progress on their report cards. Please feel free to visit me during Parent/Teacher interviews.
