1. Go to www.daybydaysc.org and click Tumblebooks. Watch and listen to Clever Beatrice. I want everyone to come to the carpet (call by groups); bring your pencil and your clipboard. We are going to watch and listen to the story of Clever Beatrice. Be sure to listen carefully and think about the characters, how they act, and what they do. 2. Periodically, pause the story and recap/review what is happening. 3. Once the story is over, ask someone to summarize, tell the characters, etc. Ok, someone summarize what we just read. Who are the main characters? 4. Pass out the character analysis diagram and complete as a class. Write the answers given on the Smart Board for students to copy onto their diagram worksheet. We are going to complete this diagram together. Who is our main character?...Beatrice. Think about what Beatrice looks like.(take answers)Throughout the story, how does Beatrice act? Think about why she went to see the giant (to get money to help her family). (Continue to take answers from students). Now, what makes this character special? Why do you think the author chose to write the story about Beatrice? (take answers)

Accommodations: Early finishers should review their own work, and then may help
anyone that is not done or read. There is a hearing impaired child, so a microphone will be used. Also, some students need help writing quickly. Repeat and modify instructions as

needed.
