REPORTING ACADEMY FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Increase your writing portfolio with published work. Workshops once a week for 8 weeks. Classes on a real college campus with real reporters. One-on-one mentorship with Columbia College Chicago grad students and professional journalists. The pay rate for teens is $50/week.

This academy is a great opportunity for high school students seeking experience in reporting. Students will participate in an intensive 8-week workshop writing articles and essays about issues impacting their lives and using multimedia tools to tell their stories. Work will be published online and in our student magazine, R_Wurd.

All students will have the opportunity to submit an application and be considered for an interview.

Columbia Links is a journalism skills-building and leadership development program for youth and teachers in the Chicago Public Schools, housed at Columbia College Chicago. Through workshops, mentoring and the creation of youth-produced publications, Links works to build expertise, relationships, skills and opportunities that connect students, teachers and volunteers through journalism while revitalizing youth media in Chicago. Columbia Links is funded by the McCormick Foundation and the Dow Jones News Fund and supported through the journalism program at Columbia College Chicago.
