PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

This December, I will be completing my Masters degree from UNCGs department of Library and Informational Studies. Upon earning my degree, I hope to obtain a full-time library position. My preference is to work in an academic library setting. While I am enjoying my current student position at UNCGs Jackson Library in the Digital Projects department, I would also certainly be interested in any type of academic reference job should one become available. Additionally, I am open to the idea of working in a public library. I recognize how competitive the job market is for librarians, and dont want to narrow myself down to one particular field. However, being open to multiple library positions does make it difficult to set specific goals for the next few years, but there are some goals I want to accomplish regardless of what my eventual library position turns out to be. 2013 2014 2015 Offer to teach workshop on how to cater to visually impaired patrons Work with my librarys IT department Take a class in Website Design Ensure that I am providing the best possible services for patrons Become proficient with Photoshop Go to an ALA event. Continue to improve my IT skills Become member of ALA Apply for jobs throughout NC and VA, primarily in Piedmont Triad region Focus primarily on a Reference or Digital Projects position Gain a better understanding of metadata Start building professional networks with public and academic librarians
