FTS! HEALTH! WORKERS! are! gearing! up! for! the! forthcoming! Ear! &! Hearing! Health! surgical! campaign,! taking! place! from! the! 8th! till! the! 13th! of! October.! Over! 20! patients! are! due! to! undergo! treatment! at! the! hands! of! three! doctors:! Dr.! Richard! Wagner! (USA),! who! has! supported!previous!surgical!campaigns,!and!two!other!ENT!surgeons! from!Bolivia!and!Paraguay.!Our!hope!is!to!establish!an!important!link! for!the!future!with!ENT!surgeons!in!our!corner!of!South!America.! Meanwhile,! audiologist! Odalys! Arce! (see! previous! edition)! has!recently!returned!from!the!remote!town!of!Riberalta,!where!she! provided! hearing! tests! and! supplied! hearing! aid! moulds! to! children! at! three! different! centres! for! people! with! hearing! deficiencies.! FT! Health! has! also! been! able! to! support! a! missionary! outpost! in! the! remote! village! of! San! Pablo! de! Isiboro,! providing! healthcare! to! missionaries!and!members!of!the!communtiy.!

AS! EVER,! the! summer! months! have! provided! us! with! a! steady! stream! of! shortXterm! volunteers! and!visitors.!We!were!once!again! privileged! to! welcome! back! Ruth! Young! (Scotland),! who! provided! invaluable! support! in! Administration,! Education! and! Sports! over! three! months.! ExX Sports! volunteer! Mark! Morris! (Scotland)!paid!a!visit!in!July!(en! route! to! the! wedding! of! another! exXvolunteer,! David! McColl!),!

IN! SEPTEMBER,! we! were! excited! to! launch! a! brand! new! ministry! in! our! local! community,! overseen!by!the!Sports!area.! ! FT! recently! approached! a! local! primary! school! with! the! offer! of! taking! responsibility! for! Religious! Education! teaching.! FT! workers,! working! alongside! a! group!of!volunteers,!would!take!the!4th!and!5th! grade! classes! for! two! hours! each! week.! However,! its! fair! to! say! that! these! would! not! be!the!R.E.!lessons!they!were!used!to!! ! Instead,!the!classes!(who!are!taught!at! the!same!time)!have!been!divided!up!into!four! groups,! who! compete! against! each! other! for! points! over! the! eightXweek! programme,! accumulated! through! the! weird,! wacky! and,! occasionally,!wet!games!played.! ! Crucially,! the! classes! count! towards! the! participants! educational! credit! and! the! final!exam!will!be!based!on!the!Bible!teaching! that! they! have! learned! over! the! course! of! the! session,!and!the!verses!they!have!memorised.! ! Lucero,! from! the! 5th! grade,! told! us,! I! love! the! games! and! the! songs! and! I! enjoy! learning!memory!verses!from!the!Bible.! Were! closely! monitoring! the! progress! of!this!ministry!with!a!view!to!expanding!into! more!schools!in!2013.!Watch!this!space!!

Children! in! these! neighbourhoods! come! to! the! classes! to! receive! Educational! support,!play!games!and!hear!Bible! stories,! with! around! 30! children! in! attendance! at! each! class.! Craig! Cunningham! and! Elizabeth! Vaca! (see! last! newsletter)! are! currently! overseeing!this!ministry.!!
