Here is an example. Europa = Europe Italia = Italy Germania = Germany Britannia= Britain Paeninsula = Peninsula 2. Other Latin words are the root of many words in the English language. We call these English words Latin derivatives. a. Magnify, magnificent, and magnitude are all derivatives of the Latin word magna. Guess what the Latin word magna means? Look up in an English dictionary magnify, magnificent, or magnitude if you need help. i.) magna = Large or increase b. The Latin word aqua means water. Find an English dictionary and look under 'aqua' to find a list of possible derivatives. Give two English derivatives from aqua. i.) Aquamarine ii) Aquatint 3.
