Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods. 23 And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. 24 Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. 25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyones chains were loosed. 27 And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. 28 But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, Do yourself no harm, for we are all here. 29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas.

Most of the time people know where they are physically, but few in this world know where they are spiritually.
Thus, their goals are centered on the earth, pleasure and prosperity.

Ephesians 2:1-3
And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

What Does It Mean To Be Lost?

People are lost whether they realize their condition or not. Sin is a terminal disease.
Ezek. 18: 4 Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die.

Sin kills whether we know we have it or not.

(Example I didnt know I had cancer; I dont believe I have cancer, I have cancer but refuse the treatment.

Ecclesiastes 7:20
For there is not a just man on earth who does good and does not sin.

Romans 3:10 As it is written: There is none righteous, no, not one;

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

What Does It Mean To Be Lost?

The consequence of sin is spiritual death which means :
1)- Separation from God 2)- A hostile relation with God 3)- Impending punishment

Romans 5:6-8
For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

What Does It Mean To Be Lost?

Being dead in sin is worse than being dead physically.
When the Lord Jesus will be revealed from Heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. - II Thes. 1: 7b-8

1 Timothy 2:3,4
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

In Jesus, He paid the ultimate price to provide a cure, but the cure only works when it is accepted and applied. Therefore, one must be made aware of his lost spiritual condition or he will not ask What must I do to be saved ?

One must know that God exists & Sovereignly reigns

Knowing God Exists & Reigns Sovereign

Its illogical to believe that anyone will submit to a God he doesnt know.
People can see the creation and know there is a creator, but not who He is. Everyone has the personal responsibility to seek God. Everyone who knows God has the responsibility to share Him with others.

Knowing God Exists & Reigns Sovereign

God has been revealed to all the earth, but most have chosen to ignore Him.
In our nation, fewer people each generation are being taught to fear God. And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Heb. 11:6

Knowing God Exists & Reigns Sovereign

One who comes to know God understands He rules with absolute sovereignty.
Gods will carries the force of the highest law in the universe. All violators are doomed to eternal separation from God and all His blessings

One must Seek Reconciliation With Him

1 Peter 1:20-23
He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you 21 who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. 22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit[a] in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever

1 Peter 3:18
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,

John 8:24
Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.

Seeking Reconciliation With God

God offers reconciliation, but only on HIS terms.
And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. Col. 1:21-23

One must Surrender To Gods Rule

All sin is rebellion against the rule of God in ones life ... being self-willed. The Apostle described the life of the lost person as one of self gratification.
Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. Eph. 2:3

Surrendering To Gods Rule

Faith in God will cause one to surrender his life to Him.
Abraham was called the friend of God because he obeyed Him. (Heb. 11: 8) Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. James 4:10

John 14:15
If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

John 15:14
You are My friends if you do what I command you.

Matthew 7:21
Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in Heaven will enter.

Surrender to God involves a change of heart resulting in a change of lifestyle.
Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:19

Jesus and Peter referred to drastic change of heart and life as being born again.
Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3

The Apostle Paul referred to it as be transformed.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, Rom. 12:2

One Will Make A Public Commitment To God

Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God. 9 But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.

A Public commitment To God

Confessions are made with the lips, but denials can be made with actions.
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Rom. 10:10 They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work. Titus 1:16

One Will Want To Wash Away Their Sins

Everyone in the N.T. who had his sins forgiven was baptized as a faith response.
Acts 2: 38 ... 3000 who responded to Peters sermon. (For remission of sins ) Acts 8: 35-38 ... The Ethiopian Eunuch to whom Jesus was preached . Acts 10: 1-48 ... Cornelius, the righteous gentile Acts 16: 1-34 ... Lydia and the Philippian jailer. Acts 22: 16 ... Saul was baptized to wash away sins and call on the name of the Lord

Mark 16:16
He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

1 Peter 3:21
There is also an antitype which now saves usbaptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

What is our spiritual condition? Have we put on the body of Christ?
Have we fully submitted to Him & His will? Are we claiming to be His while denying Him by our actions?
