PCK 4 Topic 10: Industrial preparation of ammonia, sulphuric acid and nitric acid Activity: For this activity,

we have been asked to collect a various types of solutions from different sources which are: 1. Shower foam 2. Pond water 3. Toner solution 4. Cordial (durian belanda)

Then, we need to identify the alkalinity or acidity of the solutions using litmus paper which turns litmus paper red when it is shows acidic properties and turns litmus paper blue when it is shows alkaline properties.

Question

1. What have you learnt from this activity? From this activity, we can learn about acidity and alkalinity which contains in our daily uses, for example in solution. We noticed all the solution that we used in daily life was contained a chemical either acid or alkaline which are dangerous for our health.

2. Which part of the primary science curriculum teaches this particular topic? This activity or topic was included in Science Year 5, Finding the properties of acidic, alkaline and neutral substances.

3. Discuss how you can use this activity in your teaching and learning. We can use this activity by asking the pupils to bring their own solution which can be tested at the classroom or laboratory. For example cordial, plain water, drain and so on. Then we can precede this activity as experiment which I more to the hands-on activity.

4. What was the role of the teacher in this activity? Teacher can be as facilitator which can guide the pupils along this activity Teacher should explain more to the pupils about the purpose of this activity Teacher should encourage the pupils to apply their knowledge from this activity in daily life Teacher should identify whether the pupils understand the concept of this activity Teacher should give opportunities to the pupils to explore this activity.
