World War II Unit Assessment Plan Unit Objectives: 1. Students will analyze events that led up to the U.S.

entry into WWII. 2. Students will examine critical events and turning points of World War II. 3. Students will analyze the U.S. decision to use the atomic bomb to end the war. 4. Students will utilize Web 2.0 tools to demonstrate their mastery of content standards. Unit Standards:
11.7 Students analyze America's participation in World War II. Examine the origins of American involvement in the war, with an emphasis on the events that precipitated the attack on Pearl Harbor. Explain U.S. and Allied wartime strategy, including the major battles of Midway, Normandy, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the Battle of the Bulge. Discuss the decision to drop atomic bombs and the consequences of the decision (Hiroshima and Nagasaki).

Activities: 1. Interactive lecture (including video clips, primary sources documents, student response) 2. Participation in SchoolFusion discussion board (blog) 3. Online quizzes using quia.com 4. Creation of a group presentation using Google Docs 5. Creation of a simulation of a discussion debating the pros and cons of the use of the atomic bomb using voki.com 6. Creation of website using weebly.com that includes an interactive timeline (using dipity.com) and a short video, (using animoto.com). Formative Assessments: 1. SchoolFusion Discussion Board posts and replies a. Measuring progress: Students will post responses to the class discussion board, including replies to comments posted by classmates. The teacher will use a rubric to assess students performance. 2. Online quizzes a. Measuring progress: Students must earn at least an 80% on quizzes in order to move on to the next section of the interactive online lecture 3. Group Google Docs presentation a. Measuring progress: The teacher will compare group presentations to the assessment rubric periodically during the creation of the project before assigning a final grade Feedback: 1. Teacher comments on student posts on the class discussion board. Students are allowed to modify posts in accordance with teacher feedback. Students also provide feedback to peers regarding the content of their posts. 2. Teacher will comment on individual student/group work using annotations in Google Docs. Students use feedback to modify their project, as necessary. 3. Students will self-assess assignments using provided rubrics as well as provide feedback to groupmates as they create their project. Students will use this feedback to improve their assignments. Summative Project: Each student will create his/her own website on the U.S. participation in World War II using weebly.com

Criteria Timeline

3 Timeline includes at least five primary source visuals and elaborates with at least one descriptive sentence on at least 10 critical events relating to World War II. Video effectively illustrates a key World War II event and includes at least five visuals as well as relevant narration and/or written captions of each visual. Both the timeline and video demonstrate a clear understanding of important content related to WWII. Written information is original and thoughtful.

2 Timeline includes at least three primary source visuals and includes some description of at least ten events relating to World War II.

1 Timeline includes fewer than three primary source visuals and very little writing to describe events relating to World War II.

Video

Video illustrates a key World War II event and includes at least three visuals along with narration and/or captions for at least one visual.
