Tues Aug 28th 1pm 4pm HALT network meeting Introductory domestic violence training.

Welcome to the HALT Network Newsletter!

The HALT newsletter is designed to keep the network up-to-date with our activities, events and important issues in family violence.

Elder Abuse Awareness

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was held on June 15th and marked locally with Age Concern Horowhenua speaking to the Grey Power AGM.

NEWSFLASH!!! Family Violence Reports Decrease When checking HALT figures we were pleased to see that family violence reports in the months of April, May and June were lower this year than last year. On average there were 2.4 less reports per week over this time.

In conjunction with Age Concern Horowhenua HALT helped to arrange coverage in the local media including articles in The Chronicle, Elderberries and a radio advertisement that played on 4 local stations.

Kit Out Project

Levin Police developed a project to kit out a number of local sports teams with uniforms bearing the Its Not Ok campaign logo and message. These uniforms are now being worn by soccer and touch rugby teams throughout the district as they attend their various matches sharing the message far and wide. Team members and their parents also attended a briefing on the meaning of the message before receiving the kit.

Those working in the intervention of family violence in the Horowhenua are hopeful that this is a result of the excellent work our local groups are doing in this area and that more families are being engaged in effective support. Time will tell if this is just a blip in the stats or a turning point of change occurring
