MBA in POWER MANAGEMENT is a 2-year full-time course designed to address the various strategic and operational issues involved in the entire chain of Power Sector Companies/Organizations, Trading and Financial Institutions. The course combines the sciences of MIS, Operations, Marketing, Finance, HRD and Energy Audits with the art of creative problem solving, presentation and team building skills of business management. Group Discussions and Interviews select bright engineers after necessary short-listing through CAT Scores. The technical background adds to their grasping capabilities providing opportunities to blend frontier technologies with management to facilitate the Indian government's mission to "Provide reliable, safe, economic and clean power to all at an affordable cost". The uniqueness of this course is reflected by sponsored candidates from various State Electricity Boards / Public Sector Units whose working experience is shared amongst students supplementing with practical situations encountered by personnel on the field in addition to regular course inputs consisting of conceptual understanding through case studies. CHANGING MANAGERS FOR CHANGING SCENARIO Power Sector is undergoing major revolutions in the form of reforms. The organizational culture is changing to make the sector commercially viable. ABOUT NPTI AND CAMPS

Nationa l Power Training Institute (NPTI) NPTI, a national ape x body, is set up by Minis try of Power, Govt. of India. NPTI, an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 organization, has so far tra ined more than 1,65,000 professionals in the field of Power Regulations and Reforms, Energy efficiency, DSM, Infrastructure Finance, Risk & Hazards, basic managerial skills, etc. Over many years NPTI has develope d its own identity. Centre for Advance Management a nd Power Studies (CAMPS) In recent past, the Indian Powe r sector has unde rgone important transitional changes ever since the introduction of reforms and res tructuring in trade, indus try and commerce. In order to match with the changing phases of Powe r se ctor development of India, NPTI, identified as a premie r nodal institute for Advance Learning and Management Studies for higher echelons of Powe r se ctor conceptualized the making of Centre for Advance Management and Power Studies (CAMPS). Since its genesis, CAMPS has been developing comprehensive capsule courses covering the areas of Ge neration, Transmission, Distribution, Ene rgy Efficiency, Environmental Safety, Renewable Energy, Environmental Risk and Hazards, Infrastructure and Finance, Privatization and Regulatory Issues, Trading, etc. Copious workshops, seminar, confere nces by various distinctionaries from Powe r Sector are organized by CAMPS to smoothen the Blending the Technology with Management in orde r to create a systems of e xcelle nce in the reforming Powe r sector.

About the program The program is targete d towards fres h and practicing e ngineers and is a unique golden opportunity for the Management of Powe r Utilities to groom bright exe cutives with enginee ring background who a re expected to move to key positions in the near future. In addition to the inputs provided in regular MBA programs, this 'Program with a Differe nce' lends special emphasis on specific Power Sector issues and ethos to give extra strength to the Indian Power Sector enginee rs to steer Power Sector of the country in the cha llenging times ahead. The curriculum design and the learning process emphasize the developme nt of s tudents' skills and abilities to apply management the ories and concepts to live problems of electricity industry. The course is duly recognized by AICTE and affilia ted to Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak. Objective 1. To crea te a pool of comm itte d and competent professionals equipped with the appropria te manageria l and technical skills to s teer the Indian Powe r Sector and run it on comme rcial lines. 2. To develop future world class bus iness lea ders and de cision makers who can think innovatively, duly sens itize d to social and environmental inte rface and are capable of searching for alte rnative solutions. 3. To imbibe basic values a nd ethos with in-depth unde rstanding of Indian realities. Pedagogy Class room lectures, sem inars, case studies, group dis cussions, role plays, group works, summer proje ct at organizations re lated to ele ctricity bus iness will be resorted to impart knowle dge and skills to the stude nts. In addition visits to power s tations, Transmission and Dis tribution facilities, manufacture rs' works shall be organize d to ensure that the students have the real 'feel' of the power se ctor. Program Structure This is a two-year program spread over four Semesters. In the firs t year, the students take courses in major functional / general management areas like Huma n Resources, Operations, Finance & Accounting, Marketing, Information Technology and core Power Sector a reas. In the second year, the students take compulsory specialize d courses in the a rea of Power Management. In addition they have to opt from a list of e lectives covering various spe cific courses from the areas of Power and Management. Evaluation NPTI shall follow the system of continuous evaluation throughout the te rm. The evaluation for each subject involves the assessment of performance of students in class room participation for eliciting effective and fruitful discuss ions, creativity and innovations demonstrated in Assignments/Teamwork/Presentations, performance in surprise quiz tests and performance in mid-term and end-term examinations. Stude nts who fail to maintain minimum academic standards may be asked to leave the program. Summer Project Students are require d to undertake 8-week Summer Training Projects in a Company / Organization re lated to Consultancies, Power and associated industries after completion of First Year. The Summer Project is a compuls ory re quirement for the comple tion of the program. Evaluation of the s ummer project will be based on s ubmission of writte n proje ct report and a defense presentation.
