Descrizione

Nameless and voiceless though she is, yet a fire burns within, pushing her to break all taboos and reach for His hem...Because her eyes meet His.

Her Story: Healed of Chronic Hemorrhage follows the life of the unnamed woman who touches the hem of Jesus' cloak in the midst of a crowd and she is rewarded for her audacity by being healed of the problem that has held her in a vice-like grip for twelve long years. This is the second book in the series "Her Story" that depicts female biblical characters as the protagonists of their stories. A few questions that today's reader may have:

- Who was this woman?

- Where was her family?

- How did she survive?

- What was the condition of menstruating women in those times?

- Is this disease still prevalent?

WHO SHOULD READ THIS BOOK?

Whether you are young or old, man or woman, transgender, everyone should read this book for a greater understanding of this issue of menstruation at large, and of hemorrhage, in particular, and its apparent causes. The book does not present a medical perspective. It only aims to delve into the mind of a woman who appears in two-three verses in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke and then vanishes. The book is an attempt to foreground her possible story.

Informazioni sull'autore

Ermelinda Makkimane has studied the Scriptures and Feminist perspectives in Literature. This gives her a unique hold over the topic she has written on – a womanist perspective on Mary, her debut book. Ms Makkimane loves thinking poetry and sometimes she writes down those words. She lives in a hamlet on the river island of Divar in Goa, India’s tiniest state, where she spends a lot of time listening to bird calls and watching the afternoon breeze scandalise the leaves. Ms Makkimane is currently working on the third book in the series “Her Story”. The series aims to foreground some of the silent women characters of the New and Old Testaments, to give a voice to those women whose lives can only now be re-imagined.

Preface

Three of the Gospels in the Bible (Matthew, Mark and Luke) cover the story of the woman healed of hemorrhage with a few minor variations. The woman touched the hem of Jesus’ garment with such faith that it caused Jesus’ power to be released in a potent way.

Even as a child, this story intrigued me. When I asked my mother, she explained further. And I thought I understood. In the ensuing years, as I struggled with my own period pains, this story made more sense. Pain. Shame. Ostracization (mental). Social Distancing. What it means to be
