Q: I AM LOOKING to buy my first property and everyone is advising me to buy in a particular area because it is trendy, upmarket, and property values are increasing. The problem is that I do not like the area and cannot see myself living there. I prefer an older, more middle-class suburb. Should I base my purchase on the best investment and value or where I actually want to live?

If you are buying to invest and make a profit then buy in the trendy area, and if you want a You should base your purchase according to your needs, such as schools, transport and place of work. Older, established suburbs will always attract steady capital growth.
