Economy needs overhaul

ON October 28, Minister of Finance Tito Mboweni will present the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS).

The MTBPS is a mid-year budget policy statement that revises the state budget presented earlier in the year by either increasing or decreasing budget allocations and commitments made to different sectors and spheres of the state inclusive of all government departments, provinces, municipalities, entities, legislatures and the judiciary.

If Mboweni continues with the neoliberal folly and gullibility that has underpinned the National Treasury approach to macroeconomic policy in the past 40 years, he will predictably impose further budget cuts and austerity measures in the same way he did during the February budget
