Informazioni sull'autore

Melanie Casey was born and lives in South Australia with her two young children and her husband (who didn't know he was marrying a writer when he walked down the aisle). After studying English Literature and Classical Studies, Melanie shifted to Law, and now works in government. A chance meeting with a highschool English teacher in the supermarket made Melanie realise that she should be doing what she'd always loved, writing! Another period of study, this time at the Professional Writing School of Adelaide's College of the Arts ensued, helping Melanie acquire the skills she needed to put her plan into action.

BEING FRUGAL

As a stay at home mother of two young children I have learned many ways to live on less without feeling deprived. I cannot believe how many ways I was wasting money before! We are still doing a lot of the things we used to, but I have found ways to do them much cheaper. We still mostly eat name- brand foods, eat out and watch movies at the theater occasionally.

I have always found finance interesting and as you may expect I have a Bachelors Degree in Finance. I have worked in Banks, Accounting offices and in my college days as a cashier.

In this short book, I would like to share with you some things I learned along the way that have taught me to live and eat well for less.

We seem to want to live beyond our means, here in the United States, and perhaps this is common globally. Keeping up with the Jones seems to dominate Middle America. We need new cars, even if our old ones still work. We need bigger homes so we can put more stuff in them. We eat out more than decades past, not to mention that the portions are now bigger than ever at restaurants.

Everything has gotten bigger in the past few decades (except electronics). Part of living on one income is changing your mindset. If it still works, keep using it!

GROCERY SHOPPING (AND OTHER TYPES OF SHOPPING)

Grocery shopping is one of the biggest areas you can cut back on in your household budget. There are a few different ways you can cut back too! You could shop at wholesale clubs like Costco, Sam’s Club or BJ’s. Another technique is coupon shopping.

There are also no-frills stores like Aldi’s
