General Observations
A common name for species of the genus Rhipsalis is mistletoe cacti. It is the appearance of the plant that inspired the name. Both grow on trees, and imaginative people may believe that their vegetation and fruit resemble one another. However, while mistletoe is a parasitic plant, the species of Rhipsalis are usually epiphytes. Sometimes the latter may be lithophytes.

The stems of most species dangle downward, though some start growing upright but eventually begin to droop. According to Wikipedia, the stems have three main shapes: terete, angular, and flattened.
