Search for the truth

In summer 2018, 19-year-old Shuo Dong was well accustomed to his new life in Australia.

He’d arrived on a student visa from China a year earlier.

The teen had been working in construction, where he socialised with the other Chinese workers.

And for the past three weeks, he’d been living in a new accommodation which he shared with his landlady, 28-year-old Qi Yu, and a third flatmate.

Qi Yu had herself arrived in Australia in 2009 as an international student.

She’d gone on to complete a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Telecommunications
