Introduction
The plight of animals in need is an area of emotional vulnerability for many of us. It is easy enough to make the occasional contribution to an animal welfare organization or to feel sad when one of those tear jerker
ads airs on television. But a few years ago, I resolved to take some sort of positive action. Having relocated to my native town of Cleveland, Ohio, I recalled that in my early years, a local animal welfare organization known as the Cleveland Animal Protective League (APL) used to feature adoptable dogs and cats in the course of a daily children’s television show. The segment was known as pooch parade.
An online search quickly led me to APL’s website, and after a painless application process and attendance at orientation and training sessions, my adventure began.
