About this ebook

Waiting is not easy! The popularity of ready made, quick fix, instant passport, instant tea, Jack-pot and other instant stuff explains our impatient day to day life.

How could a 17 year old lad go on tending the sheep in the fields alone in the cold and desolation with the great promise of royalty on his head? How easy was it for Joseph to serve Potiphar and his wife yet he knew very well the Moon, the Stars and the sheaves would bow to him? How did he handle the prison? Why would a mighty God promise dominion yet do nothing when Joseph was thrown in the pit and later sold to slavery?

These are some of the biblical scenarios that seemingly would have made the faint-hearted give up. Take this journey with me as we explore the various aspects of waiting and why we should wait joyfully.

How many times have you found people queuing and you secretly fixed yourself somewhere (jumped the line) or left? How many times have you said I will be back or bought a number that is about to be served? How many times have you carried a baby so that you wouldn’t have to queue?

Do you get impatient and look for ready-made stuff?

Do the words instant, immediately, suddenly, soon, and now bring you more peace than wait a little while, not now, just a moment, or hold on?

How many times have you hung up on customer care when you were told to Please hold, as your call is being transferred to the next available agent?

Do you prefer instant tea, instant coffee, Lucky Winner Jackpots, and instant cash transfers to other options?

IF SO, THEN THIS IS YOUR BOOK.

Do you wonder why God did not make the Earth and all that is on it in one day? After all, he was not moulding anything. He could have taken seven seconds or seven minutes to say, Let there be this, that, and that. He just spoke them into being. What was the big deal? He is all-powerful, so why not?

    Genesis 1:1-8

¹ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ² Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

³ And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. ⁴ God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.⁵ God called the light day, and the darkness he called night. And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

⁶ And God said, Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water. ⁷ So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. ⁸ God called the vault sky. And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.

Our God is a God of order and procedure. He understands things need to take time so that they can take shape and form. Could you be crying to God to speed up this and that, yet you have not taken shape and form?

God will not give a four-year-old child a car because they have faith or because He is a rich Father: instead, the child must grow up to be able to handle the car/blessing.

    Waiting on God among entails:

•Waiting for His promises to be fulfilled in your life (Rhema word – that inner voice)

•Waiting for manifestation of a dream or a vision like Joseph

•Waiting for Him to answer your prayer like Hannah

•Waiting for the fulfillment of the scriptures (written word of God)

•Waiting for Him to give you victory over your enemies

•Waiting for a promotion (either in business, at a job, or in life)

    •Waiting for a spouse

•Waiting for Him to change your story (give you a new chapter)

    Psalm 12:6

And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.

    Joshua 21:45

⁴⁵ Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; everyone was fulfilled.

Our God is faithful. He keeps His words to the letter.

This is what gives us confidence as we wait on God. He knows exactly what He is getting us into when giving us His word. We can trust Him.

Stay on as we look at the various aspects of waiting.

    CHAPTER ONE

    Why Wait?

It is God’s way of doing things.

Those of us who studied mathematics understand so well that if you were to solve a mathematical problem you must use the right formula; otherwise, you will not get it right anytime, no matter how many times you do it. From my recollection, if a question was worth five marks, you scored the first mark by getting the methodology right. You could have scored four marks for doing everything else right but missing the answer. In other words, four/five is quite commendable in any contest. I am saying if God’s plan and purpose entails waiting, then you and I have no choice but to wait. The best we can do is to co-operate and shorten the waiting period, thus ensuring we reap maximally out of it all.

Have you ever asked yourself why a woman must wait for nine months to hold her bundle of joy? Can you imagine what a one-month-old baby looks like? In fact, a premature newborn is put in the incubator in the neonatal intensive care unit if she/he is born before the 38 to 40 weeks are over. The difference between pregnancy and God’s promises is that one has a definite time frame while the other’s time frame is unknown. God leaves the waiting period blank because its maturity depends on you as an individual.

    Isaiah 66:8

Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.

In the above scripture, Zion travailed and brought forth her children. It is possible to bring to birth the unexpected or out of ordinary. A nation was brought forth in one day. Praise God.

Spiritually, you can be pregnant for your miracle today and give birth in less than nine months, depending on how you walk with God. We all want speed, and waiting is not easy; hence, we must be ready to co-operate with God to avoid unnecessary delay.

Come to think of it: if God spoke to an ovum today and told it that it would one day be a president, it would be so excited! It would jump around and tell the others of the mighty revelation, just like Joseph did to his brothers. That would of course elicit envy and jealousy from the fellow ova, if any. After a while, the fascination would be over and the ovum would have to go through the normal process like any other before. God would not fail to make sure that it is fertilized, for our God is more than faithful and He does His part without fail.

Some biology here: once a sperm has penetrated the ovum, the ovum surface changes, thereby preventing entry of other sperms. Fertilization completes the genetic makeup of the baby, including whether it will be a girl or a boy. The result of this union is the production of a zygote cell, or a fertilized egg, initiating prenatal development.

Once the egg is fertilized, a rapid process of division begins. The fertilized egg leaves the fallopian tube and enters the uterus three to four days after fertilization.

Implantation is the process by which the fertilized egg attaches to the endometrium (lining tissues of the uterus). The cells in the fertilized egg continue to divide.

After implantation in the uterus, some of the cells form the placenta while others form the embryo. The heartbeat begins during the fifth week of gestation. At the eighth week, the developing embryo is now called a fetus. The fetus at eight weeks is about half an inch long and constantly growing.

After the eighth week and until the moment of birth, your developing baby is called a fetus.

Along the journey, the fetus would start getting impatient, wondering, "Whose president will I be? I am all alone here. What does it mean to be a president? How does
