About this ebook

What’s the most radical idea possible, the one least likely to be understood by humanity, the one so far beyond humanity’s level of intelligence that whoever champions it is likely to be regarded as insane? Go on, if you’re smart you ought to be conceive of a connection so unobvious, so invisible to the masses, so improbable in relation to any other idea, that it will be almost universally rejected. That idea – despised, mocked and reviled by practically everyone – will be the No.1 candidate for being the authentic answer to existence. Pythagoras was the genius that delivered this idea – 2,500 years ago! – when he said, “All things are numbers.” The last connection that the average person would ever make when they look at the world is that what they are actually seeing, beyond the level of superficial appearance, is nothing but numbers. That is the ultimate unthinkable thought. God is Mathematics.

    The Ontological Mathematics Foundation

    Introduction

Most people think they’re smart. But what does it mean to be smart? Do smart people think conventionally? Schopenhauer wrote, Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see. Geniuses can make connections others cannot even conceive. So, if you imagine you’re one of the clever ones, what targets are you aiming at? If you’re aiming at an invisible target – invisible to the masses – the first thing they will say to you is, There’s nothing there. You’re a fool. They will troll you. They will subject you to all the muck they can throw at you. That’s the way they roll. Amongst the worst trolls are scientific empiricists who aim for a target everyone can see, the surest sign of anti-genius.

Geniuses never wait for public approval. They don’t expect to be understood. If the masses had a clue what a genius was talking about, the person would not be a genius.

The highest geniuses will never be popular. They will never be successful. Their ideas will be ignored or trashed. They will get no support. They will be permanent outsiders. That’s the price of peerless genius. As Nietzsche said, The higher we soar the smaller we appear to those who cannot fly. The true geniuses have soared so high, they have reached the vanishing point.

Machiavelli said, It must be considered that there is nothing more difficult to carry out nor more doubtful of success nor more dangerous to handle than to initiate a new order of things; for the reformer has enemies in all those who profit by the old order, and only lukewarm defenders in all those who would profit by the new order; this lukewarmness arising partly from the incredulity of mankind who does not truly believe in anything new until they actually have experience of it.

A genius is always in the business of initiating a new order of things. Geniuses are those that shift the paradigm, but the supporters of the existing paradigm don’t want the paradigm to be changed, so are forever opposed to geniuses. The powers-that-be are never going to surrender their power, so will never be on the side of geniuses. They usually want to discredit and marginalize geniuses, and even kill them off.

How can a genius persuade the masses when the masses have no clue what the genius is saying, no interest in what the genius is saying, and are fully invested in whatever paradigm the genius is seeking to overthrow? The last people of use to the genius are the masses. Terence McKenna said, Thinkers are not a welcome addition to most social situations. Thinkers are not welcome anywhere. What can the masses and the elites that prey on the masses do with genius? It has no connection to their dreary, brain-dead lives. People long since gave up reading up books.

In Ibsen’s play An Enemy of the People, the protagonist Dr. Stockmann said, The most insidious enemy of truth and freedom among us is the solid majority. Yes, the damned, solid, liberal majority – that’s it! Now you know. Geniuses are never democrats. Democrats are always the opposition. The democrats of Athens executed Socrates for his troubles. Metaphorically, all geniuses in history have been passed the fatal hemlock.

No life is harder and more frustrating than that of the genius. People like to quote Nietzsche, but no one would want to live as Nietzsche lived; an impoverished, misunderstood, itinerant hermit. Nietzsche famously said, What does not kill me makes me stronger. No one needed his strength more than Nietzsche.

The human race as a generality despises geniuses and actively persecutes them. Humanity’s most valuable resource is treated as its most worthless irritant. Everyone knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. Humanity could be transformed in no time at all if the geniuses were in charge rather than the priests, the politicians, the generals, the super rich, the masses.

Charles Bukowski wrote, I don’t like the clean-shaven boy with the necktie and the good job. I like desperate men, men with broken teeth and broken minds and broken ways. They interest me. They are full of surprises and explosions. The geniuses are the true desperate men and women, shunned by all. They are the strangers in a strange land.

– when he said, All things are numbers. The last connection that the average person would ever make when they look at the world is that what they are actually seeing, beyond the level of superficial appearance, is nothing but numbers. That is the ultimate unthinkable thought. That is the target so far away that it might as well be on the other side of the universe, or infinitely distant.

Building on Pythagoras’s incredible stroke of genius, we shall state two other impossible ideas that are incomprehensible to average people: 1) thoughts are sinusoidal waves, and the whole of reality is made from them, and 2) Mathematics is what God actually is: eternal, necessary, ubiquitous, the repository of all knowledge and all power, and the creator of all things.

If you’re not one of the masses (the profanum vulgus), if you’re supremely open-minded, then this book will present you with the proof of the case that existence is 100% mathematical, and that this is the sole way for reality to be intelligible and have a definitive answer.

The closed-minded won’t get past the first page, but all we care about are the geniuses and those smart enough to be able to appreciate genius.

Any idea accepted by the masses is false for that reason alone. As Dr. Stockmann said, The minority is always right. The Truth is reserved for an extremely limited audience. Are you part of the most exclusive club of all?

    The Superheroes?

Our entire culture is now dominated by superheroes, the emblematic carriers of hyperreality, the more real than real. As people increasingly live in a fantasy world, so they increasingly look to fantasy beings as their guides and mentors. These fictions are their role models. That’s whom they aspire to be. Never let reality get in the way! Reality is too harsh, too hard for humanity. It always has been. That’s why humanity fell in love with religion, and why it rejects philosophy, science and mathematics, the hard subjects. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Always follow the easy path, the path of least resistance.

OK, all of you wannabe superheroes, here’s your superhero test. Imagine that one day the Superhero Creator arrives in your town. This is the guy that makes superheroes, and his job is to confer a unique super power on each new superhero. It would be no good if lots of superheroes had exactly the same talents and powers, would it? What kind of movie would that be?

The Superhero Creator summons everyone to the town hall and announces that everyone is allowed to nominate a super power, and he will choose his two favorite suggestions and convert those two people into superheroes with the power they proposed.

People start shouting out things like, Super faith, Super beauty, Super wealth, Super football skills, Super sense of humor, Super sarcasm, Super singing voice, Super Body, Super trolling, and so on.

The Superhero Creator yawns. None of the above, he says. I hear the same suggestions wherever I go. He rolls his eyes at the memory of it all, of the countless dreary town halls with the same old, same old – gray, bland and banal; human, all too human. Okay, he says, Here’s a real challenge. I want you to tell me what super power would give you the ability to understand the ultimate nature of existence.

There’s a terrible silence. Some people start to leave. But then a scientist in the crowd breaks the eerie quiet. Super perception, he yells. The ability to see anything in infinite detail.

The Superhero Creator smiles wryly. "What are you expecting to see? Let’s say you could look at the bark of a tree and keep turning up the resolution infinitely. What would you hope to see? At what resolution will you see what reality is in itself? At what point does Nature reveal itself? What magnification unveils the truth? How will you interpret what you are seeing? How will you conceptualize what you are perceiving? How will you know that your hypothesis is right?

Let’s say you could see the Big Bang as it happened. How would that reveal the cause of the Big Bang given that whatever preceded the spacetime universe of matter wasn’t in space, wasn’t in time, and wasn’t material? Anything outside space, time and matter does not belong to the scientific paradigm of empiricism and materialism. No amount of sensory perception will reveal the ultimate cause, so how will this super power tell you what ultimate reality is?

The scientist scowls and flounces away. I love Richard Dawkins, he says defiantly as he goes.

A woman steps forward, dressed as an Elf. Super Elvish Intuition, she says. I want to be connected to everything.

The Superhero Creator smiles once again. "OK, let’s say you close your eyes and meditate and find yourself connected to everything, absorbed by everything. When, in this blissful experience, does the ultimate nature of existence reveal itself to you? Does being connected to everything mean that you know what everything is? Does being absorbed by everything show you ultimate reality? Why then have the greatest meditators in the world, those that claim to be most enlightened, failed to elucidate ultimate reality to us? Hindu meditators say one thing, Buddhist meditators say something else, New Age meditators say yet another thing. If meditation is the path to knowledge, why don’t they all agree with each other? What would Elvish meditation add to the mix?

Meditation provides an experience. It does not provide knowledge. Let’s say you experienced total rapture and interconnectedness, how would that constitute knowledge of what existence actually is? Knowledge is conceptual, not experiential, not perceptual.

The Elvish woman puts on even larger pointed ears and scurries away, clutching her prized first edition of The Lord of the Rings, and muttering something about curses and ancient Elvish revenge.

A female hippie presses forward, smoking from a weed pipe. Super love and light, she says, with a faraway look in her eye. As you would expect.

The Superhero Creator shakes his head. Is love the answer to ultimate existence? What does it mean to say that reality is made of love? Are atoms made of love? Are the strings of string theory strings of love? Is gravity the force of love? Are quantum mechanical wavefunctions love wavefunctions? Doesn’t love have an unfortunate capacity to diminish, and even to turn into its opposite – hate? How does that happen? If the lightworkers are so full of love, why do they spend most of their time spewing hate? If the lightworkers know so much about reality, why haven’t they presented a theory that all philosophers, scientists and mathematicians can agree with? They don’t seem interested in knowledge at all. They focus only on emotion. Emotion is not knowledge. He waves his hand and dismisses the woman. She gives him the finger, calls him a fascist, and guarantees to have him no platformed and banned for hate speech. Snowflake bitch!

Anyone else? the Superhero Creator asks.

A big fat man with orange hair and an ill-fitting MAGA red cap pushes forward. Super Dickhead, he bellows, for no apparent reason.

The Superhero Creator grins. But you already have that super power, Mr President.

Finally, a teenage girl with intelligent, sparkling, bright green eyes steps forward. Super Reason, she says.

Ah, at last, the Superhero Creator says, his relief obvious. "How could anything other than reason reveal the ultimate secrets of existence? Existence is either made of reason, or it isn’t. If reality is made of reason – and reason of course exists ontologically as mathematics – then reason is the only way to understand it and extract all knowledge from it.

"If reality is made of anything else – anything that is not reason – then reality is ipso facto irrational. Reason and logic cannot avail us. Mathematics is irrelevant and useless. Existence would be chaotic, miraculous, magical, operating without rhyme or reason. Things happens for no reason. Order is impossible. Organization is impossible. Pattern is impossible.

The laws of unreason, presuming we can even refer to such things, are the laws of chaos and instability. Such ‘laws’ would destroy existence instantly. Existence would be consumed by its own contradictions.

He strokes his goatee beard. "There is only one rational answer to existence – ontological mathematics. There are infinite irrational answers, each as irrational as the next. There is no means to prefer one irrational answer to another. All irrational answers are equally bad, equally unbelievable, equally opposed to reason and logic. Super reason alone penetrates to the deepest layer of reality: the eternal, necessary, a priori, analytic, conceptual, rational, logical, mathematical layer. That alone provides a rational, intelligible answer to existence."

He looks around. By the sacred laws of comics, we need a nemesis for our new superhero, a diabolical monster ruthlessly opposed to the amazing power of super reason. We need a totally dummy, the stupidest man on earth. Ah, Donald … your moment has finally come!

    Proof of Existence

There are two things for which you would never use science if you wished to prove their existence. One is God and the other is mathematics. No one would ever turn to scientific arguments to establish the existence of God, and, equally, no one would ever appeal to science to explain the ontology of mathematics. Not only are God and mathematics wholly outside science, both have been proposed as the true basis and source of science. How could you use the sensory creation to explain the non-sensory Creator?

Abrahamism asserts that God created the scientific universe of space, time and matter out of nothing, hence God is deemed the Original Scientist, the Author of Science. All scientific laws were established by God’s decree.

As for mathematics, given that mathematics is essential to science (if you removed mathematics from science, science would be useless), the question ought to arise automatically as to whether or not science is derived from mathematics. Is science simply spacetime mathematics? And if spacetime is itself mathematical, then there is nothing but mathematics.

Nobel Laureate Paul Dirac, one of the pioneers of quantum mechanics, said, God is a mathematician of a very high order and He used advanced mathematics in constructing the universe. In fact, God didn’t use mathematics in constructing the universe. God is mathematics, and the universe is entirely mathematical since all of it is constructed from mathematics. There is nothing but mathematics.

Mathematics is the most amazing thing possible. They say that the brain is the most complex thing in the universe. It would be truer to say that mathematics is the simplest there is, since it reflects Occam’s razor, the principle of economy, and yet from it we can build the most complex things possible, including bodies and brains. You cannot have complexity without first having simplicity, indeed ultimate simplicity.

What is the most bizarre thought in history – bizarre to average people, that is? It is this. Mathematics is what mind actually is, and since mind is life, mathematics is life. Is there any stranger idea? No wonder Pythagoras – the original author of this idea – seemed like a demi-God to his followers. No science-fiction writer could have conceived a more outlandish thought. To the first rational minds in the world, the first minds freed from religious superstition, Pythagoras’s insight must have been overwhelming. They must have seen Logos everywhere. Today, people see matter everywhere. The Pythagoreans saw mathematics everywhere. They saw matter as resulting from mathematical patterns, from points, lines, planes, volumes. They conceived of matter in terms of the five regular solids: the Tetrahedron (4 sides), the Cube (6 sides), Octahedron (8 sides), Dodecahedron (12 sides), and the Icosahedron (20 sides). They believed that these remarkable solids held an essential clue to the true structure of the universe. Because Plato used these same solids to explain the structure of the Universe in his influential Timaeus, they became known as the Platonic Solids.

You would expect the supreme mystery – the mystery of life – to have the most mysterious and extraordinary answer of all. God is an incredibly strange idea, but is completely undefined, and merely begs the question. The same is true of cosmic consciousness. There is only one answer that is mind-boggling – utterly incredible – yet also uniquely rational, logical and definable. That answer is mathematics. God is not the most ineffable thing of all, mathematics is. The human race hasn’t even begun to explore the true mystery and power of mathematics because it has never understood what mathematics actually is. Mathematics is existence itself, existence in itself, existence for itself.

What is the last thing that the typical human would look to for the answer to existence? – mathematics! That very fact is why it should now be the Number 1 candidate for explaining reality. It’s not as if humanity has not exhausted every other possibility, and got absolutely nowhere. The mystery hasn’t even been dented.

Sherlock Holmes said, Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth. We have now eliminated the impossible – God, matter, randomness, infinite regress, bare consciousness, and so on. All that is left standing is mathematics.

Leibniz wrote, In whatever manner God created the world, it would always have been regular and in a certain general order. God, however, has chosen the most perfect, that is to say, the one which is at the same time the simplest in hypothesis and the richest in phenomena.

It is in fact mathematics itself that is simplest in hypothesis and also richest in phenomena (i.e. the simple source of all complexity). In ontological mathematics, all of existence comprises sinusoidal waves arranged into autonomous units called monads, and these are all that are required to explain everything. You can’t get simpler than that.

What is the biggest case of mistaken identity in history? It’s God being mistaken for something other than mathematics.

This book is about exploring how this misidentification came about and demonstrating that the traditional proofs for the existence of God are in fact valid proofs for the existence of mathematics.

Mathematics is the basis of everything. Mathematics is the true God, and it creates the universe from itself, using, naturally, mathematics.

The only means by which existence can be intelligible, rational, explicable and have a definitive answer is if existence is mathematical. Nothing else is any answer at all.

Science asserts that neither God nor mathematics created the scientific universe (and thus science). Science claims that the scientific universe spontaneously arose from nothing at all, i.e. the scientific universe is self-creating and has no basis in any eternal, a priori order of reason or logic (rationalism), or personal divinity (theism). But that is no answer. That is an appeal to magic and miracles.

    =====

What is the primary error in how people attempt to discover what the answer to everything is? It’s that they fail to consider what characteristics any proposed answer must have. If someone proposes God as the answer to everything, what is the answer to God? If someone proposes bare consciousness as the answer to everything, what is the answer to bare consciousness? If someone proposes love as the answer to everything, what is the answer to love?

The answer to everything is necessarily the base answer, the ultimate answer, the total explanation leaving nothing out. Any answer that generates another more fundamental question is obviously not the final answer. If the Abrahamic God is proposed as the supreme answer, but no answer to God is given then no answer has in fact been furnished.

When people propose God as the answer, they mean something like this: God is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-present, infinite, eternal, flawless, necessary, immutable, and perfect in every way. How can that not be the answer? So, they have correctly identified many of the properties that the ultimate answer must have, but they have omitted the two most vital considerations of all: what is the ontology of God and what is the sufficient reason for God? They fail to answer the all-important questions: What is it? and Why is it? Instead they give the list of properties a person would need to possess in order to explain everything – except to explain himself and how he does what he does. So, no one ever says what the Abrahamic God is made of, what allows this God to exist, and how he creates a universe (not-God) from nothing at all. That is all rapidly glossed over.

People have extreme difficulty identifying the fundamental question of existence. Abrahamists address the question of the world – the universe – and see it in terms of What made the universe? This is rapidly converted into Who made the universe? This reflects a fundamental problem in how humans think. Historically, religion and spirituality revolve around a who – a being – as the active agent, the maker. Philosophy, by contrast, often asked What? rather than Who? – a radically different question involving a fundamentally different way of thinking. Science asks a different question still. It asks, How? What, Why and How lead to drastically different conclusions.

If we use the word Creation to refer to the universe, we can list five possibilities as to how it came about:

    1)       A Creator (a who, a person, a mind) created Creation out of nothing, which is what Abrahamism claims (theism). There is a clear separation between Creator and Creation.

    2)       A Creator (a who, a person, a mind) created Creation out of itself, which is what Eastern religion claims (pantheism). The separation of Creator and Creation is thus illusory.

    3)       A Creator (a who, a person, a mind) created Creation out of something (matter), which is what Plato argued. The Creator was a copier (he copied the eternal domain of perfect Forms), and he did not intervene in his Creation (deism).

    4)       A Creator (a what, a non-person, a substance, a system) created Creation, which is what many pre-Socratic Greek philosophers argued. For them, the Creator was the arche, the ultimate underlying substance, the origin, the source, the first principle (deism, if we equate the arche with divinity, and atheism if we don’t).

    5)       Creation created itself out of nothing at all (it is self-creating; it pulls itself up by its own bootstraps; it is its own Creator), which is what science claims (atheism).

We can also consider the cases where no Creation takes place at all, i.e. the universe is eternal. There are three basic scenarios:

    1)       Aristotle believed in two basic eternal things: 1) matterless form (God), and 2) formless matter (prime matter), and a whole host of intermediate matter-form (hylomorphic) substances that formed a great Chain of Being between pure matter (lowest level of the chain) and pure form (highest level of the chain). There is no evolution in such a system. Nothing is created; everything is eternal. Having declared that matter is eternal, Aristotle did not have to address who or what created matter and how it was achieved. Instead, Aristotle was interested in a different question: Why do material things change? His system is all about the actualization of potential in terms of the whole cosmos.

    2)       The Static Universe: A static universe, also referred to as a ‘stationary’ or ‘infinite’ or ‘static infinite’ universe, is a cosmological model in which the universe is both spatially infinite and temporally infinite, and space is neither expanding nor contracting. Such a universe does not have spatial curvature; that is to say that it is ‘flat’ or Euclidean. A static infinite universe was first proposed by Thomas Digges. In contrast to this model, Albert Einstein proposed a temporally infinite but spatially finite model as his preferred cosmology in 1917, in his paper Cosmological Considerations in the General Theory of Relativity. In 1917, Einstein added a positive cosmological constant to his equations of general relativity to counteract the attractive effects of gravity on ordinary matter, which would otherwise cause a static, spatially finite universe to either collapse or expand forever. This model of the universe became known as the Einstein World or Einstein’s static universe. – Wikipedia

    3)       The Steady State Universe: The universe is eternal, yet also expanding. The density of matter in the universe remains the same due to a continuous creation of new matter.

So, there’s no shortage of systems that people can use to attempt to understand existence. The trouble is that all of them beg the question, i.e. they assume the truth of their assumptions and the conclusions derived from them without making any serious attempt to justify those core assumptions. No mainstream system explains why something exists rather than nothing, what ultimate existence is, and what its sufficient reason is, i.e. why it exists at all.

How many Christians ask why their God exists at all, what he is made of, and what is the sufficient reason for his existence? How many scientists ask why matter exists at all, what it is ultimately made of, and what is its sufficient reason? All of the truly deep, foundational, fundamental, ultimate questions are routinely ignored. Or bizarre, miraculous claims are made instead. Science, for example, is willing to claim that something can spontaneously appear out of non-existence, or that there are infinite universes (a Multiverse), in which everything that is possible happens somewhere or other. As ever, no explanation is ever given for why this should be the case, why existence should be like this, what the sufficient reason is for it.

People imagine they have answered questions which they have not in fact answered. Steven Weinberg said, An expert is a person who avoids the small errors while sweeping on to the grand fallacy. It would be truer to say, "An expert is a person who commits the big errors, culminating in the grandest fallacy."

The blunt fact is that intellectuals can’t think effectively. In the past, the main obstacle was religious faith, based on feelings concerning God, and the desire to please him and not incur his wrath. Abrahamism, for example, is just a cosmic version of the family, with God as the wise, just, benevolent, loving father, but who must be respected and honored at all times. No Abrahamist ever asks the foundational questions regarding their God: what is he made of and why does he exist? Without the answers to these questions, Abrahamism is just blind faith, opposed to reason and logic since Abrahamists deliberately avoid applying reason and logic to the existence of their God. Conveniently, it is regarded as blasphemous and indeed technically impossible to elucidate the nature of their God. He is considered to have an infinite mind, which a finite mind can never fathom. He is the ultimate unknowable, the ultimate layer of mystery which can never be resolved.

Immanuel Kant, often regarded as the greatest philosopher of all, shows what happens to a mind infected by Abrahamism. Kant declared, I had to deny knowledge in order to make room for faith. His philosophy involves the claim that reality in itself is unknowable, which is just a repackaging of the claim that God in himself is unknowable. Where Martin Luther denounced reason as the Devil’s whore, Kant wrote his Critique of Pure Reason, which amounts to the same thing. All people of Abrahamic faith distrust or openly attack reason. They refuse to accept that pure reason is the only thing that can reveal ultimate truth to us. They insist on everything being shrouded in essential mystery, impenetrable by reason. They believe that God is the final answer to existence, yet is an answer that cannot be explained. Obviously, these people will never arrive at a total explanation of reality since they deny that any such explanation exists. They therefore posit that existence is fundamentally unintelligible. It cannot be known. It cannot be understood. If there is an ultimate explanation, it is beyond our limited capacities
