Chapter 1: The Newspaper
O' doctor's mother.
Lata wondered how it would sound if someone were to call her that. The thought had been spinning around in her head ever since she had read that advertisement on the back of a big building, opposite to the bus station, and then in the newspaper. It was because of the advertisement that she took out two rupees for the first time in her life to buy a newspaper.
The book vendor stared at her. He had never seen a rural lady in her thirties with a veil asking for a newspaper. He told her that, if she could wait for another ten minutes, she would get the evening daily, but she only wanted that exact Hindi newspaper.

Lata stepped into the bedroom after doing a post-dinner cleaning. Her husband, Ramesh, smiled at her. Since she had returned in the evening from the neighboring city where she had gone to mourn an elderly lady, instead of being tired from the event and bus ride, she had been unexpectedly energetic.
She had sat with Bannu for some time, talking to him about his studies and played with Bhavani and Kishore, their younger
