      PREFACE

      HEARING THE VOICE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT:

      Developing Sensitivity to the Leadings of the Holy Spirit

      It is of paramount significance to highlight from the onset the divine reality that the greatest challenge facing dozens of Christians today is the inability to access or hear the voice of God when He talks. Dozens of believers have faced tragedies, calamities and unnecessary delays in their lives, simply because they could not hear the voice of God warning them about those atrocities. As a consequence, many have been eluded from accessing certain blessings of God because they could not hear God’s voice as an instruction regarding the accessibility of those opportunities. When believers are in a spiritually dry period as far as hearing the voice of God is concerned, the devil takes advantage of their ignorance to exploit and manipulate them. It is for this reason that dozens are still entrapped in a morass of debilitating poverty, sickness and limitation in progress. As a consequence, many believe that God does not speak rather when He does, He speaks to a few select individuals who have somehow attained a stratospheric pinnacle of enlightenment in matters of the spirit. 

      In the recent turn out of events in the global Christian arena, dozens have been seen migrating from one church to the next, chasing after prophecies in order to know what God is saying. The truth is that while the prophetic gifts play a pivotal role in terms of directing believers to hear the voice of God, prophets can only confirm what the individual believer has already received in their spirit man.  It is important for every believer to learn the specific and individual leading of the Holy Spirit through their spirit man. Reliance on the inner witness of the Holy Spirit in the spirit man is a factor in all guidance. The Bible testifies that we all now have an anointing within which serves as a perfect guidance system (1 John 2:20). It is also the perfect Will of God that in this New Covenant, every single believer on their own can hear and know God for themselves without any intermediary (Hebrews 8:10-11; 10:16).

      Accessing and hearing God’s voice is every believer’s divine legitimate birth right.

      Jesus did say that His sheep will hear His voice (John 10:27). Each and every individual sheep that genuinely belongs to Jesus will hear the voice of Jesus and follow Him. The truth is that God doesn’t communicate with us the way we communicate with one another. He communicates from His Spirit to your spirit, and then your spirit communicates what you hear to your mind. That is what we call an inward witness. It is very similar to a thought or a prompting. It’s very subtle and requires a closeness with God and regular practice to hear it more quickly and clearly. That’s why the more time you spend with the Lord and the more you practice tuning in to His voice, the more it will become a voice that thunders in marvellous ways (Job 37:5, NIV). If we disobey God’s promptings in the little things, we won’t graduate to the bigger assignments. Sometimes, the small things He asks of us may seem unimportant or involve giving up things we think we enjoy. But to reach a level of intimacy with God where we hear His voice and have launched us into new places in the spirit, obedience must become a non-negotiable in our lives.

      In order to clearly access God’s voice, it is important that we constantly be attuned to His frequency.

      Radio and television stations transmit twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week; but we only hear them when we turn the receiver on and tune it in. Failure to hear the signal doesn’t mean the station isn’t transmitting. Likewise, God is constantly transmitting His voice to His sheep, but few are turned on and tuned in. Most Christians are busy pleading with God in prayer to transmit when the problem is with their receivers. Christians live frustrated lives because they are trying to hear God outside the spirit realm. It is disheartening to note that many tongue talking believers are alien to God’s voice, yet he is speaking every day. The vast majority of the church of Jesus Christ is not in the Spirit. If the whole church of Jesus Christ is moving in the Spirit today, the whole world today will be shaken by the power of God. The truth is that most of the churches are in the Spirit
