REDISCOVERING MY IDENTITY

The end of a long-term relationship can bring feelings of being rejected, unwanted and undesired, regardless of whose decision the split was, or even if it was mutual. These feelings can linger long after the relationship itself has been mourned.

After the end of my 11-year relationship, nine years married, my view of myself as undesirable and unattractive persisted long after I felt I ‘should’ be reawakening. I couldn’t shift the notion that everything I had to give was unwanted. And the more I probed into my feelings the more I came to understand that at the root of all of it, I actually felt completely invisible.
