About this ebook
Just before midnight, on the night of a full moon, a young barber stays out past his bedtime to go to work. Although his customers are mostly regulars, they are anything but normal-after all, even monsters need haircuts. Business is steady all night, and this barber is prepared for anything with his scissors, rotting tonic, horn polish, and stink wax. It's a tough job, but someone's got to help these creatures maintain their ghoulish good looks.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A barber's son takes after his father, but only after the sun sets and only once a month. His clientele is a bit different from his father's though.... this young boy is a barber for the local monsters. Once a month, on the full moon, the town's monsters come in to get their hair, fur, and snakes trimmed and styled, because even monsters need haircuts! This book is cute and humorous and will keep children entertained.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Even Monsters Need Haircuts by Matthew McElligot is about a barber's son taking the family trade to heart. Everyone needs a haircut eventually and this boy sees that anyone who wants it, gets it.On the night of the full moon the boy stays up past his bed time to provide haircuts for all the local monsters. It's a cute book for kids who like monsters or might be facing their first haircut at a barbers.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Summary: A story of a young boy, the son of a barber, who works the midnight shift cutting hair of all the resident monsters. He does this without anyone knowing except the monsters. At one point he thinks he has been caught when a gentleman knocks on the front door of the shop but once he gets in the door and in to the chair, he removes he head and everyone realizes he is also a monster.Personal Reaction: This was a fun imaginative story that little boys will love. They love all things monster and the play on words used in the book such as moon powder, tangling comb, and shamp-eeeewwww will be fun for the students to pick up on.Classroom Extension:1. This would be a fun book to read in the month of October when all things gross and goblin seem to fill the store shelves. It would take a little bit of the scary out of the whole monster thing for students.2. A fun activity might be to grow Bermuda grass in egg shells and let students "cut" their "monster's" hair or color it (paint) or style it with hair bows.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Summary:This is a cute story about a boy whose dad has a barber shop during the day. Once a month on a full moon the little boy goes to the shop at night and has his own barber shop, but his is for monsters only! At the end of the night he gets a ride home on one of the monsters back, and his dad is none the wiser, until maybe he reaches for what he thinks is gel, but is rotting tonic.... because afterall everyone needs a haircut at some point!Personal Reaction:I loved this! Thought it was really cute for Halloween. It wasn't too scary, it had the right bit of humor, and the pictures were really cute!Classroom Extensions:1. Discuss what kind of monster they think would need a haircut, and what they might look like.2. Have them draw what their monsters might look like after a haircut.
