Sweet Japanese Dessert Recipes

Fruit Sushi

This delicious and sweet Japanese dessert dish is a simple rice cake packed full of your favorite fruit to make a sushi dish you will be amazed by. It is one of the most traditional and popular dessert dishes served in Japan today.

Makes: 5 Servings

Total Prep Time: 35 Minutes


1 ½ Cups of Short Grain Rice

2 Cups of Water

3 Tbsp. of White Sugar

¼ tsp. of Salt

1 Cup of Coconut Milk

1 ½ tsp. of Pure Vanilla

Chopped Strawberries, for filling

Chopped Pineapple, for filling

Chopped Mango, for filling


1. Use a medium pot and set over low heat. Add in the short grain rice, water, white sugar and salt. Stir to mix and cook for 20 minutes or until the water is fully absorbed.

2. Then add in the coconut milk and pure vanilla. Stir to mix and continue to cook for an additional 3 to 5 minutes or until the liquid has been absorbed.

3. Place a bamboo mat onto a flat surface. Place a square sheet of wax paper over the top.

4. Spread at least ½ inch thick layer of the rice mixture, making sure to roll to fit the rectangle.

5. Lay the chopped fruit pieces over the rice.

6. Roll the sushi using the bamboo mat towards you, making sure to roll it tightly.
