    June Delaurier had a secret identity. By day she was a mild-mannered administrative assistant at a mail-processing plant, but at night she was Bloc Holliday. It was her first season on the Ruby City Rollers. She’d tried out for the team once before and hadn’t made it, but after a year of skating outside, doing hundreds of squats in her living room, and tripping over tons of children at her local skating rink, she’d finally found her rhythm and was accepted onto the team.

    She decided not to tell anyone she worked with. She wore big comfortable sweaters and sensible shoes, and was often tasked with playing the buzzkill on her boss’s behalf. If anyone found out, they would probably tease her about it, and she didn’t need that.

    There was one person she wished knew her secret identity, though. His name was Nate. He was the manager of the shipping department. He looked like he played a sport in high school really well. Nate was tall, stocky, and blond, with a haircut that he had to put some effort into but not a lot. His friends probably had a broey nickname for him, like Buzz or Ace or The Natester or something. He was one of those guys everybody liked, who made life look easy. He was funny, but he didn’t expect you to laugh at his jokes. He always wore cologne, but never too much.
