Balungi explains deep ideas in physics in an easy-to-understand way. Think Physics is a series aimed to solving the big problems in physics. The book targets topics that researchers and students spend time wondering about, like the origin of gravity and the universe. It also goes into the theories that seem right but are wrong and shows why they are wrong a rarity in science books. Think Physics series is a rigorously correct, lighthearted, and cleverly designed problem solving book for physicists of all ages.
*Has been tested, rewritten, and retested to ensure that you can teach yourself all about major unsolved physics problems.
*Requires no math-mathematical treatments and applications are included in optional sections so that you can choose either a mathematical or nonmathematical approach. No Calculus.
In this PART 3 of Think Physics series; Using a logical approach, Balungi presents various approaches that led to the value of the deflection angle of light at the Sun's surface since Newton's time. He explains the cause of the irreducible anomaly in the observations of the deflection of light by the sun. Finally he recovers Einstein value of the deflection angle using Extra dimensions and gives us a reason to Re-think Gravity.

In this PART 3 of Think Physics series; Using a logical approach, Balungi presents various approaches that led to the value of the deflection angle of light at the Sun’s surface since Newton’s time. He explains the cause of the irreducible anomaly in the observations of the deflection of light by the sun. Finally he recovers Einstein value of the deflection angle using Extra dimensions and gives us a reason to Re-think Gravity.
The Newtonian Approach
During Newton’s time, it was believed that light was made up of particles moving at a varying speed. To prove why light bends near the Sun’s surface Newton had to assume that these particles had mass. For example he considered a Sun with mass M, where a particle of light with mass m from a distant star past the Sun, had to bend near the Sun’s surface due to the gravitational force of attraction acting on the particle of light. Because of this, the observer at the earth’s surface never saw the actual position
