This Book Catholic Holy Week Contemplation and Reflections From Palm Sunday To Easter Sunday: with the Liturgical Mass Readings (Homilies,Catholic Sermons) is meant to guide you through the holy week with a spiritual homily for each day of this holy week, gospel readings and prayers and daily quote for each day
In this book, Fr Henry Martins (OSA) prepares his homilies for the holy week. in this modern era , it is not enough simply to read and understand what the daily readings mean . Our challenge and aim is to find out what they mean in our time and in this present context. Speaking the Word in our time and for our places is the challenge of preaching and, in this Book, Fr Henry offers his considered reflections on what that task requires. The texts of these homilies can be used for the many special feasts of the year by not only preachers when preparing their homilies. but also they are made available here in this book for anyone wanting to deepen their understanding of the holy week and what Christ passion, death and Resurrection meant for us .

Gospel (Year A)
A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mathew 21:1-11
Blessings on him who comes in the name of the Lord.
When they were near Jerusalem and had come in sight of Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, Go to the village facing you, and you will immediately find a tethered donkey and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, you are to say, 'The Master needs them and will send them back directly,'
This took place to fulfil the prophecy:
Say to the daughter of Zion:
Look, your king comes to you;
he is humble, he rides on a donkey
and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.
So the disciples went out and did as Jesus had told them. They brought the donkey and the colt, then they laid their cloaks on their backs and he sat on them. Great crowds of people spread their cloaks on the road, while others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in his path. The crowds who went in front of him and those who followed were all shouting:
"Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessings on him who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest heavens!"
And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil. Who is this?
people asked, and the crowds answered, This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.
This is the Gospel of the Lord
The Short Reflections
The Passion Drama of Contradiction
Today’s feast is one among contradictions. We recall and celebrate the triumphal entry of a king to the good applause of the people. However, this same King is condemned to a brutal death, betrayed by the very people that hailed his arrival. Today’s feast is dual in nature, it is a Palm and a Passion Sunday. The day of Hosanna in the highest
is also the day that culminate to Crucify him! Crucify him!
The day of hailing and shouting: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord
culminate to the day of denial: I do not know him!
A day of homage to the king become also a day of hurling insults and mockery to the same king. during this drama of contradictions, we see different characters playing different roles. First is Jesus, the King who enters Jerusalem on the rear of a colt. A colt is a usually a beast of burden not a glorious and imposing one. This portrays Jesus as the King of peace. The colt is also a symbol of the humility of Jesus, which made Jesus to give up his heavenly glory to taken on human flesh.
Next, we have the crowds who passionately cheered him on into Jerusalem, only to turn against him a couple of days later. Then we have the disciples who all ran the away when the going got tough. Peter, who once vowed to stay by the Lord even unto death, ended up denying him three times in one night. The painful role is that
