THE OTHER SIDE

ith , the goal was to design a space for people who felt looking out onto a garden was just as important as being in a garden.’s main hub was a beautifully furnished, family-friendly outdoor entertaining area nestled beneath a bold, clean-lined pergola. This was a space to barbecue, dine and lounge about in, or simply somewhere to relax between dips in the adjacent plunge pool. and lower-level planting screened the fence line and wrapped around the pergola, creating a private outdoor space. From the pergola, the garden stepped down to a mid-level lawn area bordered by a lower garden bed and the raised swimming pool. A Perspex window formed part of the swimming pool wall which, when the pool lights came on at night, bathed the area in a soft, warm glow. The wide path from the pergola to the front of the garden featured both solid bluestone paving and stepping stones with garden beds and lawn integrated in-between to soften the look. Adding to the mix of textures, there was sandstone wall cladding. The feature lawn area at the front of the garden was detailed with mixed plantings of various shapes, colour and texture. For interest, flowering plants were dotted throughought. Delighting all, upon the lawn life-size Labrador puppies, watched over by their mother, happily played. These bronze sculptures were made by Victoria-based Willie Wildlife Sculptures. won a Gold Show Garden Award.
