A Collection of Relatable Thoughts is dedicated to anyone who has ever felt stuck and is trying their best to not give up. The main topics include staying positive, comparisons, relationships, areas in our lives that we can develop, and finally, a hopeful future. These topics are explored by the author’s own personal experiences which she’s found to be relatable to other people through conversing with others and hearing their stories. The author also writes about the different thoughts she has had when suffering from emotions like anxiety, self-doubt and feeling torn for not understanding her purpose in life. 

This is an interactive book, one that a reader can keep editing and going back to. Each chapter has two activities: one is mindful colouring and the other is a suggestive activity. The mindful colouring activity is to encourage the reader to take a few moments of their time to destress and focus at being present in that moment. The suggestive activities are there to give you different activities to do when stress, self-doubt, or the feelings of disconnection arises.

A Collection of Relatable Thoughts is not necessarily a self-help book and does not give the readers step-by-step instructions. Instead it tries to invoke awareness and persuades the reader to make their own decisions as to what changes they would like to make to improve their quality of life.

Introduction

A Collection of Relatable Thoughts is a book full of poetry, letters, and encouraging conversations that dives into the realities of life. Its aim is to encourage you the reader to reflect on your everyday thoughts and life experiences, and to motivate you to make better choices daily. The feelings expressed in this book are universal. We’re not going through them alone, there are others who share your feelings. Our situations may be different, but we all pretty much have similar thoughts along our journeys. The truth is, we’re all connected together through our pain and vulnerabilities. But we are not destined to stay there, we should help each other break free and move on to a healthier future.

The book is broken into five chapters with each one exploring a different mindset:

1.Battleground; looks at how overpowering negative thoughts can be when we are feeling defeated.

2.Them vs You; the detrimental impact of comparing ourselves to others.

3.Relationship; the way that our relationships shape different parts of us.

4.Learning Curve; becoming your most authentic self through a journey of self-discovery.

5.Soaring; being your best self.

Along with the entries, there are a few simple activities to guide you on different ways you could improve your own life; I encourage you to take some time going through these. Each chapter has a suggestive activity and a mindful colouring activity.

Life happens now. And whether you like it or not, you can’t postpone being in the moment. I started doing mindful colouring to pass time during my night shifts when I worked in a mental hospital. It was something that I did to keep myself awake. But I started to find it more therapeutic when I was feeling anxious and I needed something to help me chill out. If you’re dealing with more serious mental issues, mindful colouring alone won’t be as effective, so you should also consider seeking further professional help.

Sometimes we get caught up in worrying about what’s next, or what will happen tomorrow. The mindful colouring activities are meant to encourage you to rein in your wandering mind back to focus on the present moment. As you do them, don’t worry if your mind roams elsewhere. Let it wander, but just lead it back to the task. The reason I decided to include this activity is to expose the people around me to a different way of dealing with stress. Try it out, and then decide for yourself whether it is something you may want to continue doing in the future.

The suggestive activities offer alternative activities that you can try to reduce stress, build connections or to help you set goals in the future. Try the ones that you haven’t before and see if they add any positive change to your life.

You are also expected to read this book in order from the first chapter to the last, so that you are able to see the progression of thoughts through the chapters. Every entry is listed on the content page, so if you have a certain thought that is mentioned in this book it is easy for you to flick back and re-read.

I would like to share my experiences with you to show you, that you are not alone. So one day you may share your stories too, they are what connects us to each other.

I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it and find encouragement within these pages.
