    Chapter 1

    Mason

Tyler is only three weeks old and we have already been to the doctors twice, Eva tried to talk me out of coming for a third time but I insisted so she sent me off on my own.

I know it’s probably nothing, like the last two times, but I just want to make sure my little guy is okay. Is that so wrong?

With the way everyone is acting you would think me trying to take care of my son is a crime, but wouldn’t not getting him checked out be the crime?

The receptionist chuckles when she sees me, Take a seat Mason, the doctor will be with you shortly.

I know the routine by now and so does Tyler, he’s such a good little boy, he woke up when I took him out of the car earlier. He grizzled a bit and still has snot pouring out of his nose but he settled soon after.

He feels a bit warm, it’s warmer in here than it is in the car, maybe I should take one of his layers off, but then he might wake up and I don’t want to upset him. I wish Eva had come, or at least Sarah but she thought I was being dramatic too, the traitor.

I look up when I hear the sound of my doctor’s voice, he’s bringing another patient back down the hallway and is talking to her softly.

He needs to hurry up, this place is too warm for Tyler and he will want to be fed soon. If he starts crying, I won’t be able to settle him without Eva. Don’t blame the little guy though, I couldn’t live without her tits either.

I’m so mad at her for refusing to come.

She should be here, we’re a family now, we need to do things like this together.

I watch as the doctor picks some brochures up off the desk and hands them to…Aletta?

    What. The. Actual. Fuck.

    What is she doing here?

Please tell me she’s not stalking me and trying to cause trouble for my family again, I’m marrying Eva soon and she needs to get over it.

My past seems to be haunting me with every step forward I take with Eva, is it so wrong to want to move on with my life with the woman I love?

I stand up with Tyler in my arms, ready to give her a piece of my mind when she turns around and I catch a glimpse of the pamphlets in her hands.

    I stop dead.

    This can’t be right.

Is this some kind of a sick joke?

When we make eye contact, her whole body tenses and she gets visibly upset, then she all but runs from the room.

    This can’t be right.

    I can’t deal with this.

    This is too much.

    She’s pregnant?

At least I can say for sure that I’m not the father of that baby but I happen to know someone that has slept with her recently.

The father better not be who I think it is.

    Fuck. My. Life.

    ***

Bursting into my father’s office announced, I take pride in the fact that I catch him off guard. He always seems to have the upper hand, knowing all of my moves before I make them, but not today.

Today, this asshole is going to give me some answers.

Do you want to know who I just saw at the doctor’s office, holding pregnancy pamphlets? I ask before he has a chance to speak.

    My father huffs in annoyance.

Clearly, he isn’t thrilled to see me, can’t say I’m all that excited to see him either. I thought I put this part of my life behind me, for good. This is the last place I want to be right now but I need to know if I have a half sibling on the way, this shit affects me too. I won’t let another child be raised under this roof.

Could it be Evangeline Van Der Woodson? Oh no, it can’t be, seeing as she already gave birth to your child! My father’s anger steadily rises during his tirade, by the end of his sentence he is standing behind his desk and practically spitting venom he is so worked up.

I figured he would know about Eva and I by now, it was only a matter of time when I signed my name on Tyler’s birth certificate alongside hers. I didn’t come here to talk about Eva or Tyler though, they are off limits when it comes to this man, I came here to talk about Aletta and that is the only thing we will be discussing.

Aletta is pregnant, I state. The bastard has the nerve to smirk, like the thought of him being a father again is funny, Is it yours?

Last time I checked, someone that you had slept with being pregnant wasn’t a joke.

Do you think I would be stupid enough to get someone pregnant like you did? Although I have to say, congratulations on that one, she is a fine specimen and I couldn’t have made a better choice for you myself.

My automatic reaction to Eva being called a ‘fine specimen’ by my father is to reach across the table and knock the fucker out, but I manage to reframe myself, barely.

The way he looks when he talks about Eva rubs me the wrong way, I don’t need him looking at her like that, or at all. Fucking bastard shouldn’t even be thinking about her.

Eva’s pregnancy may have been an accident, but it wasn’t stupid, it was the best fucking thing that ever happened to me and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Her pregnancy brought us back together, if she didn’t get pregnant and come to the States to visit Jayden, I might have never seen her again. That’s something I would have regretted for the rest of my life.

Eva told me about my father’s history with her parents and it explains a lot actually. The first and only time I ever saw my father cry was the day Jillian Van Der Woodson died, of course he never paid any attention to the fact that her husband, Gregory died too.

I remember finding him in his office with tears running down his face, he told me that the world had lost one seriously fine piece of ass and his biggest regret was not fucking her when he had the chance.

Later that night, he slapped my mom around for packing away pictures of Jillian, then I got my ass kicked for trying to protect my mom. Don’t know why I even bothered trying to protect her. She never acknowledged my help and she sure as hell, never helped me clean my wounds up afterwards.

I really hope this sick fascination he still seems to have with Jillian doesn’t transfer onto Eva, if it does, we are going to have some serious fucking problems. No one is messing with my girl, especially not my piece of shit father.

Stop avoiding the question, is the baby yours? Aletta looked awful, worse than I have ever seen her. She wasn’t even wearing makeup; I think that’s why it took me so long to recognize her. Normally, she wouldn’t set foot outside of her own bedroom if she didn’t look like a million dollars.

If he is the father of her baby, then he better treat her right, see her looked after. He can’t just brush a baby under the rug like he does with everything else. Aletta wouldn’t make a very good mother but she would be a better parent than my father, that’s for sure.

I had a vasectomy shortly after you were born, I had my son and I had no need for any other children, especially not to risk the chance of having a girl. A girl would be utterly useless to me. Although, maybe if I had had another son, he would have turned out to be a lot more loyal than you. You’re nothing but a disappointment, he says viciously with absolutely no emotion in his eyes. The man is getting more and more cold hearted every year, I’m not sure if he even has a shred of decency left in him.

Being called a disappointment doesn’t affect me though, I have been called a lot worse over the years, ‘disappointment’ is one of the kinder names.

The fact that he isn’t the father of her child is a relief, having two parents that are completely fucked up doesn’t give that child much hope of a good future. Let’s just hope the father of her baby is somewhat normal.

But I have my answer, he isn’t the father, that’s all I came here for and now it’s time for me to leave.

My father however, has other ideas. It seems he wants to goad me into staying, that asshole always has to come out on top.

Don’t you want to know who the father is? he asks. He obviously thinks this is amusing.

Games, always fucking games with this man.

Not really, if it’s not you then it doesn’t affect me, if this baby isn’t my half-sibling then it can be someone else’s problem. I have enough stuff going on in my own life at the moment, without having to worry about the baby of my ex-fiancé.

Oh, but it might, I don’t turn around but my feet seem to be glued to the floor, Considering Aletta slept with your friend Jayden a few times. Even though I’m not looking at my father, I can picture the triumphant gleam in his eyes.

    He thinks he’s got me.

    But Jayden?

No, that can’t be true, he’s just messing with my mind.

I can’t believe that Jayden of all people went there, Kyle or Alex maybe, but Jayden? Nah, that just doesn’t fit.

Of course, she did sleep around so I’m sure there will be more than a few people present for the DNA test, he states coyly.

I walk out the door and don’t look back, I walked in there thinking I held all the power but with my father that’s never the case. He is always one step ahead of the game.

I call my lawyers on the way home, wanting them to go over the prenup one more time looking for loop holes. When Eva and I get married I want her family’s company fully protected.

I want my son to be fucking bullet proof and completely untouchable.

It’s time I became one step ahead of my father.

My family’s future depends on it.

    Chapter 2

    Eva

Mason has been acting really weird ever since he took Tyler to the doctor the other day.

He was really mad at me for not coming with him but there was nothing wrong with Tyler and the doctor confirmed it. I thought that he would be over it by now but apparently not.

    He’s still sulking.

Everyone will be here soon for Tyler’s welcome to the world party that Sarah is throwing him, but Mason is still walking around in a huff. I don’t know whether he is mad at me or Sarah or both.

Probably both, but I think mostly me, he barely looked at me when he got home and then took off almost straight away and was gone for hours. Apparently, he’s still not over it, it also doesn’t help that he’s not a huge fan of today.

Mason told me he didn’t want this party but there really was no stopping Sarah, she has been all things Tyler since he was born four weeks ago. She has put a lot of effort into planning this party and they are letting us stay rent free in the apartment above their garage, so if Sarah wants to throw our son a party then Mason is just going to have to suck it up.

I have managed to keep Sarah from going too out of control, but only barely, she gave in and let us have a BBQ lunch with only very close family and friends but I think this will be the fanciest BBQ I have ever been too.

Earlier, I looked out the window to see tables all set up with nice tablecloths that each have an elephant center piece and there are balloons everywhere. I hate to think what she has added in the last ten minutes.

Before we head down to the party, I need to talk to Mason about our wedding. Sarah offered to help us with all the planning but after seeing the BBQ set up, I think we will need to plan this one on our own. I used to dream of a huge fancy wedding with a big guest list and no expense spared but when neither the groom nor the bride have parents that will attend, it sort of puts a downer on the whole affair.

I think I would rather focus on our love for each other than having a large, extravagant wedding. Plus, I would hate for Aletta or Douglas to show up and ruin everything. A nice, small, private affair would be much better.

Mason is muttering under his breath and I look up to find him staring out the window with Tyler in his arms. I love watching them together, the sight makes my ovaries combust. Mason is so good with him and beyond attentive but a little over protective. He is giving Jayden a run for his money, that’s for sure.

Sarah wants to help plan our wedding, I almost laugh out loud at the look Mason gives me, he is clearly horrified. I’m hoping I didn’t have a similar look of horror when Sarah first offered, the last thing I want to do is to offend her.

If she goes this over the top with a simple BBQ, what is she going to do with our wedding? he asks with wide eyes. We share a chuckle, imaging what crazy things Sarah could come up with. I would go down to the registry office today to marry you Eva. I love you, I don’t care about all this stuff, all I want is for you to be my wife.

I might just take you up on that offer, I lean in to kiss Mason and before it can get heated, Tyler lets out a small cry.

Tyler, man, you have got to get used to me kissing your mama. She was mine first, Mason leans down and gives Tyler a kiss on his forehead, but he is still squirming and close to a full-on meltdown.

He’s just hungry, let me feed him and then we can go down and get today over with. I am dreading going downstairs, I know it should be exciting and all that but I’m just so tired, the last thing I want to do is go and hang out with a bunch of people I have never met before. I know Sarah has invited a bunch of her friends and if they are anything like her, then we are in trouble.

Today might go a lot better if I get your other boob, Mason suggests while wiggling his eyebrows up and down seductively.

I give Mason a look that screams ‘not in your lifetime buddy’.

    "Nice try but you
