Introduction
Gods and deities are a huge part of fiction. From computers people mistake as gods to actual deities walking the earth, they’re omnipresent. Sometimes the gods aren’t even real in stories, but the belief in them drives a story.
Because of their ubiquity, if we want to make interesting worlds, we have to ask about gods and deities. Gods and deities are parts of their world – even when all they are false ideas. If you want to write, it’s time to meet the makers behind your world.
How did this come about? Many years ago, I published a column series on worldbuilding called Way With Worlds,
taking what I'd learned from writing, gaming, and coaching people. Years later, I revived and rewrote it, including knowledge I'd gained from various projects and experiences. It became a book series after that rewrite because I wanted to preserve it in a more accessible form.
As I worked on those books, I realized that people may need very specific coaching on various subjects. I decided to create a book that would be like sitting down with me to get help, asking questions designed to help you find your own answers. This way, you get an easy-to-use, in-depth guide on the subject you need as a worldbuilder.
So the questions await and you've got a world to create. Let's go!
