About this ebook

The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company by Robert Iger: Conversation Starters

The book, In Hoffa's Shadow: A Stepfather, A Disappearance in Detroit, and My Search for the Truth, is written by Jack Landman Goldsmith, a Harvard Professor of law and who is widely recognized for his stint as the head the Office of Legal Counsel during second Bush administration. It is an emotionally powerful and utterly compelling book that weaves a beautiful tale of parental love through the threads of the history of the labor movement, a reflection on the government’s surveillance powers and offers startling insights into organized crime. The book is an effort of the author to attempt an investigation of facts and information that tied his stepfather to the mysterious disappearance of the union leader, Jimmy Hoffa.

Introducing The Ride Of A Lifetime

On September 23, 2019, Robert Iger, chairman and CEO of Walt Disney released a memoir titled ‘The Ride of a Lifetime : Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company’. This is the author’s first book and in this memoir, Robert has detailed his thought process, mental and physical toils, happiness and bitter cries that were eminent during his 14-year long journey pioneering and steering the boat called ‘Walt Disney’ clear of failures.

Determined to do better than his father, who had suffered depression and lacked self-confidence, Robert aimed to grow in a confident person and put in relentless efforts to follow his passion. Under the able mentorship of Roone Arledge, an American sports and news broadcasting executive who was president of ABC Sports, Robert took his first lessons in the corporate set-up.

Many interesting details and tiny snippets of information following major acquisitions, keeping up with major stars in Hollywood and Silicon Valley and dealing with pressures-internal and external are vividly described by Robert. The book doesn’t have a plot or a storyline but it is just a casual flow of information, of experiences and of the continuous working of a busy mind of an even busier CEO.

Four important principles are outlined by Robert Iger based on his leadership at Disney which includes optimism, courage, decisiveness and fairness. By optimism, the author implies having a positive outlook and doing your best to achieve your goals. By courage, the author implies to taking bold risks as fear of failure is the ultimate destroyer of creativity. By decisiveness, the author asks us to not procrastinate and take the right decisions at
