    FABULOUSLY CONFIDENT

JENNIFER LOPEZ AND OTHER STARS TALK FITNESS—AND FIERCENESS—SHARING THEIR BEST TIPS TO MOTIVATE AND INSPIRE

    JENNIFER LOPEZ

AT AGE 46 (REALLY!), THE MULTITALENTED STAR SAYS NOW, I’M MORE AWARE OF WHAT WORKS BEST FOR ME. HERE’S HOW SHE MAINTAINS HER STAMINA, SPIRIT—AND SIX-PACK

FLY, GIRL When you work on yourself, you can create a life that feels healthy and good for you, and things start going more right.

WITH THE SECOND RUN of her Las Vegas show All I Have kicking off May 22 at Planet Hollywood, an album in the works, a role on the TV cop drama Shades of Blue and 8-year-old twins at home, it’s exhausting just thinking about everything on Jennifer Lopez’s plate (which she swears includes the occasional cookie). How does she manage? I love what I do, which gives me the motivation in every area, Lopez tells People. I get excited by all my new projects, and I give everything all I have. To prep for her high-energy stage show, I rehearsed for months to build up to the stamina I would need. Here, more keys to her success:

She gets going with a smoothie.

After readying twins Max and Emme for school, but before exercising, Lopez drinks a smoothie made with unsweetened quinoa or rice milk. It’s really good! It starts the day in the right way, because you know we go astray as the day goes on.

    She mixes her workouts.

Lopez likes cardio, boxing, circuit training or toning exercises with trainer Tracy Anderson: You have to switch it up every once in a while just to keep your body and yourself fresh. And as Anderson recently told the New York Post, Lopez’s dedication pays off: We’ve been working together for over three years, and she knows if she’s consistent, it will work. That’s why so many of her results are showing up now.

    She cranks the tunes.

In her gym she listens to all kinds of music—anything that has a lot of energy so it pumps me up. That includes some familiar hits, as Anderson has said: The one thing she has to deal with is that I am also a fan of her music, so I play that a lot during our sessions. Music is also a better timekeeper than a clock: For her upper-body warm-up, we do two songs without weights, and then we add 3-lb. weights, and sometimes I add a song with 5-lb. weights as well, Anderson said.

    She meditates.

I like to sit still and clear my mind. It really calms me and will start my day on the right foot. Usually that means going outside on her balcony for 15 minutes of affirmations, which she’s described as just me, talking to the universe about what I want, what I deserve, what I will accept into my life. . . . It’s half prayer, half meditation, and I kind of reset myself to know what my focus is for my life. And sometimes I’ll just sit there and say nothing. It’s about quieting my mind and just being still. The practice has been eye-opening for Lopez. When you start becoming aware of your thoughts, it’s shocking how much we think negatively about ourselves. Instead of ‘I really am not thin enough, or not thick enough,’ [you might say] ‘I really work hard at being healthy.’ Once you start throwing out [self-critical] thoughts and replacing them with more positive thoughts of appreciation for yourself, it really changes how you feel.

She lives a healthy example at home.

Lopez can’t resist a chocolate-chip cookie—so she doesn’t try. I still eat foods I love but in moderation. I don’t deprive myself, she says. And I always like to have healthier snack options like fruits or vegetables with me. (Backstage in Vegas, I love to snack on walnuts or have a shake.) A typical breakfast for her twins might be cereal, eggs or, less frequently, pancakes. They’re growing up how I did: They kind of love bread and butter too much, she says. I tell them, ‘You have to eat vegetables and protein.’ They understand all that because I’ve been talking about it since they were so little. ‘Vitamins and minerals, fuel for your body and your mind. You have to rest your body and take care of yourself.’ So they’re really good at eating greens and healthy stuff.

She knows a magic antiaging formula. (Shh. Don’t tell. It’s kind of boring.)

Lopez, who turns 47 in July, is often asked why she seems not to age. The answer isn’t glamorous, but all the better because anyone can adopt these tricks. I always make sure to sleep eight hours, drink lots of water, wash my face and moisturize. I’ve never smoked and don’t drink alcohol, so all of that has helped as well. See? Easy.

AB FAB The age-defying Lopez posted this selfie to Instagram in February.

    J.LO IN LAS VEGAS

Her Vegas spectacular is singing, dancing, great costumes and fashion elements, amazing set design, choreography and everything else you’d expect from me, says Lopez. I want my audience to walk away feeling like they had a special evening getting to know me.

"I GET IN AN ATHLETE MIND-SET.

LIKE, ‘OKAY, WE’RE IN THE RACE

RIGHT NOW. SO WE HAVE TO TAKE

    CARE OF OURSELVES MENTALLY,

    EMOTIONALLY, PHYSICALLY’ "
