Ward Price

Born in Tulsa Oklahoma, by the age of twelve years old Author Ward Price was already sure that his future lie in his Wrestling ability. This was an opinion with which his Coaches, including more than one legendary Hall of Fame-recognized Coach, readily agreed. His steadfast dedication to honing his skill was rewarded with the subsequent honor of leading his team to win a State Championship, while attending High School at Webster, in Tulsa; the first African-American to do so. Next came a Wrestling Scholarship, which meant that the foundations of an excellent education from the University of Oklahoma were well-lain and in place. When other circumstances of his life in Tulsa became overwhelming, several choices ultimately ended with a conviction under the new, controversial Federal Drug Laws. But Mr. Price refused to allow that to be his signature moment. Even from within the Penal System, Ward Price continued to study, and hold on to the faith he had clung to throughout his life. Now, as a Primary Contributor for an Urban Development Movement, 'Ray-Ray House' – an effort to restore blighted properties and reduce violence in communities – Ward Price has come full Circle. From eager-eyed youngster striving to maneuver through a rapidly changing urban landscape, to a mature and involved part of those same neighborhoods, Mr. Price is working to restore dignity and a stronger sense of Community – among the people of the City he still calls Home, and beyond. In his straight-from-the-hip, first person accounts of his life, Ward shares some of the influences – both from within his family and from society at large – that shaped his amazing journey through the Educational, Penal, Rehabilitation and Community Systems at work today in the United States.
