God's Oaks of Righteousness: Working Together to Develop Servant Christians

About this ebook
In our society it is easy for Christians to become so caught up in our own responsibilities and schedules that we fail to recognize the many opportunities God places in our lives. There are a variety of people that cross our paths every day with physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Some may be passing through our lives for the first, and maybe the last, time. Others may be in our lives for just a short time. Those who are in our inner circle of friends and family will be with us for the majority of our lives.
Whoever these people are, God has placed them in our lives for a purpose. We have the privilege - if we choose to accept this mission - of sharing the love, grace and mercy of God with them. When we look at those around us in the way in which God sees them, we are compelled to reach out to them.
Knowing that each day we live on this earth is ordained by God should give us the motivation to use every opportunity to serve the Lord and bring glory to Him. It should give us a reason to invest in the lives of others as we learn of their special needs which God has gifted us to meet. In so doing we can be part of the exciting ministry of developing God’s Oaks of Righteousness.
God’s Oaks of Righteousness was written to challenge and motivate Christians to recognize opportunities to minister in our world. Everyone has a place in which they have been gifted to serve, whether as a large group leader with a vivacious personality; as a quiet, caring person working one-on-one praying for God’s intervention in the lives of others; as one willingly giving time and energy to supply for the needs they recognize; or somewhere in-between.
God’s Oaks of Righteousness was written to reinforce the concept that we are working together as one united body of Christ. We each have our own area of ministry and spiritual gifts to use for Him. As a team we rejoice together and give God the glory for the spiritual maturity developed in others. We rejoice in their strength to stand firm and live a life honoring God because of their personal relationship with Christ and the Holy Spirit working in and through them.

God's Oaks of Righteousness - Linda Pyle
Preface
I
am not an extrovert of any sort. In fact, if you were to observe me in any public situation, you would notice my tendency to stay in the background observing those around me. I would take note of those in my immediate surroundings and converse with them. However, during the course of the event, I would not have interacted with the majority of the people.
Sometimes I have wondered if I could really impact people around me for the Lord if I didn’t truly know many of the people I encountered. I know God has created me as He desired for His purpose. He will continue to teach me to use what gifts I have for His glory and develop others through His power.
I have been told that I am a good listener. Therein lies a strength which God has used in me to influence others around me. I have had many opportunities through the years to put this to the test when those around me needed a listening ear to help them deal with their present situations.
Sometimes it is just a passing conversation with someone in a store, at work, or at an event. Other times it is with a person whom I later develop a deeper relationship with. I have learned that letting them share their needs with me is a great opening for me to share of myself with them and then offer to talk with them further and to pray with them.
Throughout my Christian life, I desired to serve the Lord and to make a positive impact on those that I met. At times I questioned what more I should be doing. Then when reading Isaiah 61:1–3 (quoted by Jesus in Luke 4:18–19), I caught a glimpse of a deeper ministry. When Isaiah prophesied of the future ministry of Jesus, I was struck with the listing given of types of people and the corresponding ministry they needed. This was an example of Jesus’ ministry on earth and the ministry He desired for His disciples. It opened my eyes to a new way of looking at those around me and gave me a better idea of how to meet their needs through the leading of the Holy Spirit.
And even more than that, it gave me a goal of allowing God to work through me to accomplish His will in the lives of those I met to produce oaks of righteousness
that could withstand the trials they may face. The listing of the actions of one ministering in this manner given in Isaiah 61:1–3 was overwhelming in many ways. And then I was guided to the passage in Isaiah 11:1–2 describing the ministry of the Spirit aiding in accomplishing God’s purpose in the lives of people. This was not my work to do, but God would accomplish this through me.
But Why,
I thought, would Isaiah use the mental picture of an oak tree to indicate the completion of this ministry?
Many thoughts still raced in my head as I wondered what these oaks of righteousness
would be like and what would be the evidence of that change. I did not need to look far for the answer was provided in the verses following giving another listing of what could be accomplished through those who had been discipled to continue God’s work.
Even though this has been a passage of interest to me for many years, the real emphasis on this type of ministry began as a homeschooling mom. When our two children were young, our family became my main emphasis of teaching and discipling. Since our children are now adults, my focus
