About this ebook

Cai Antony wants nothing more than to finish his tour with the First Cavalry Regiment and return home to rebuild his family's horse breeding business. The bitter attacks from the Gauls were making that difficult, if not impossible. When he rushes to the aid of his commander, a flash of bright light takes him...elsewhere.

Adrian, a member of a Roman Reenactment group, finds Cai in the middle of his field, sexy and disoriented. He calls his friends, Max and Fabius, who confirm that Cai is a man out of time. The attraction between Adrian and Cai is unmistakable. And Adrian wonders, did Cai ride through time just for him?

Cai tugged on the reins of his Damos, big bay gelding and spurred him toward the cover of the trees. By Jupiter’s cock, these Gauls fought like wild fiends, all wild war cries and fierce attacks. He glanced around to find the other men of his unit. All were engaged. Blood flowed down their captain’s arm, though Owen held his own against two of the enemy. If he could get to the trees, then he could circle around and flank one of Owen’s attackers. He gripped his spatha tight in his right hand and lifted his shield on his other arm. Using his legs, he steered Damos for the trees, curling through them to come at the fight from a new angle.

He relished Damos’ pounding hooves as he galloped toward the fray. A war cry bubbled in his throat, held tightly in to preserve the element of surprise. Wind rushed past his face, the plume of his helmet dancing in rhythm with horse and man. A large fallen tree lay before him. He could go around, but no, it’d be shorter to go over and with an urge of his heels, he aimed Damos right at the widest part of the trunk.

Damos reached the tree, rocking back on his haunches for the jump. A moment of suspension, of the world flying past, and then—thunk!

An arrow hit the joint between his breast plate and shoulder guard. Cai cried out at the searing pain ripping down his arm. His arm burned, his fingers starting to open in a reflexive motion to drop his spatha. Only will kept his fingers closed tight around the grip. White light surrounded him with a clap like thunder.

Damos’ front feet hit the ground. The sounds of battle faded away.
